  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. POLICE ARREST KUJE PRISON ESCAPEE IN SANGO OTA OGUN. One of the Kuje Correctional Center escapees was on Monday 11th of July 2022 arrested by operatives of Ogun state Police Command. The escapee, 28year old Yakubu AbdulMumuni was arrested following an information received by policemen at Sango ota divisional headquarters that, the convict was sighted somewhere around Sango Ota.  Upon the information, the DPO Sango ota division, SP Saleh Dahiru quickly moblised his men and moved to the area where the convict was apprehended. He confessed to the Police that he escaped from Kuje Correctional Center on the 5th of July 2022, when the Center was attacked by bandits. He stated further that he was convicted by Kogi state High Court for offence of Conspiracy and culpable Homicide and sent to Kuje Correctional Center. ASUU strike: Money Spent On Politics Can Meet Lecturers’ Demands – Shehu Sani Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has suggested a way to end the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Sani said money spent on politics in Nigeria can easily meet the demands of ASUU. ASUU had been on strike since February 2022 over the Federal Government’s inability to meet a 2019 agreement. The Federal Government had refused to allow ASUU to use their own generated payment platform, University Transparency Accountability Solution, UTAS, among other demands. Amid the prolonged strike, President Muhammadu Buhari had urged ASUU to call off its industrial action. In a statement issued by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, Buhari had said “truly, enough is enough” for keeping Nigerian students at home. A young Nigerian man, Kosarachukwu Ugwuka, has openly confessed to the killing of his elder brother over a piece of land in Nnewi, Anambra state. Ugwuka, who was made to confess before a popular shrine at Nando in Anambra East Local Government Area on Sunday, July 10, admitted to being responsible for his brother’s mysterious death at Akala village in Anambra state. A family narrated thus: “But when both of them were repeatedly interrogated, the nephew maintained that he is innocent, while Ugwuka continued to accuse him, and also continued to deny that he himself did not have any hand in the death. “As a result, the villagers had to resort to using traditional means to unravel the truth. Anambra State Government Demolishes Structures At Fegge, Onitsha Anambra State Government has continued the removal of shanties and Illegal structures located along Pineapple Market (Ogbo Pineapple) Woliwo and Silas Work, Waterways, Fegge Onitsha. The government taskforce arrived Onitsha this morning to continue from where they stopped last week. Speaking to the press, some residents around the area, Christian Igwe, Chibueze Jonathan and Obinze Odenigbo said that blockage of drainage channels during the rainy season caused flood water to pass through wrong channels there destroying people's life and property. Report Touts' Operations To Anambra State Government- Soludo's Aide Anambra State Government has reiterated it's ban on touts operating in any location within the state. Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi stated this while speaking to some aggrieved tricycle operators who took their peaceful demonstration to Government House, Awka. According to Mr. Ezeajughi, Governor Soludo-led administration which is barely four months in office is trying out measures to make life meaningful for the masses, including members of the tricycle riders' association. He asked them to call the hotlines provided by government to report any wrong doing, explaining that the monthly payment of fifteen thousand naira which amounts to about six hundred naira, daily. While asking the keke riders to make sure to get enrolled into the system by acquiring their identity cards and other modalities, Mr. Ezeajughi noted that they have the option of paying fourty-two thousand

MAN DIES AFTER HIGH CONSUMPTION OF BURUKUTU DRINK IN ABUJA A middle-aged man simply identified as Hassan, has reportedly lost his life after high consumption of a local liquor known as burukutu in Kubwa, Abuja. The deceased was said to have engaged in a drinking spree with his friends in the Byazhin area of Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the FCT last Saturday when the incident happened. According to Daily Trust, a witness, Bello Yusuf, said Hassan died while vomiting after consuming the drink. He said, “Hassan and his friends, mostly touts and urchins, were seen drinking heavily during the day. They were competing over who would finish some calabashes of a local liquor popularly called burukutu. “It was during the contest that Hassan collapsed. His friends who tried to revive him took him away.
