 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

                       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC,on Monday,March 13,2017 arraigned the trio of Emmanuel Onubogu,Onyeka Godday and Mamudu Musa alonside their company,Zirconafrik Limited,before Justice O.A Taiwo of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Igbosere =,Lagos on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of USD10,000.00 {Ten Thousand United States Dollars}.The defendants allegedly approached the complainant,Adewale Olaiya,requesting the sum of $10,000,which they said they needed as ''authentication fee'' for one million barrels of crude oil allocated to them by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation,NNPC,for sale.However,the defendants allegedly became elusive after receiving the money from the complainant.The defendants,however,pleaded not guilty to all the charges when they were rad to them.In view of their plea,prosecution counsel,M.S.               The trial of Muhammed Dele Belgore,a Senior Advocate of Nigeria,SAN,and Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman,a former Minister of National Planninf,commenced on Monday,March 13,2017 before Justice R.M.                           Lagos State Safety Commission today disclosed that efforts are top gear for rebranding of its activities such that Safety Training Institute would be set up for the training of all stakeholders on safety,health and environment.The Director-General,Mr. Hakeem Dickson,who made this known at a two-day mandatory Electrical Safety,Fire Risk Safety Assessment,Fire Fighting Workshop for stakeholders,stated that safety audit of organizations would include checking their Safety training records and other relevant records.He said the training became necessary due to series of fire outbreak reported recently,adding that the Commission will continue to train and sensitize all sectors to avoid unfortunate incident.Mr Hakeem Dickson noted that loss of lives and properties during fire incidents have serious consequences on the economic well-being of Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole,hence the need for the Commission,as a pro-active agency,to protect the citizens and propert

FOREX: BANKS SEEK CUSTOMERS TO BUY SURPLUS FOREIGN CURRENCIES.

                  Banks are seeking customers to buy surplus foreign currencies they hold following the flooding of the banks with dollars by the Central Bank of Nigeria {CBN}.In an effort to support and shore-up the value of Naira,CBN resolved to flood commercial banks with dollars.The banks are reported to be holding excess forex and were seeking customers to buy the foreign currencies.The banks have cleared the backlog of requests for foreign currencies for basic travel allowance,school fees and medicals.In a data released by the CBN,the apex bank,within three weeks,injected more than 1.4 billion dollars for both wholesale and retail intervention into the interbank Forex market.Mr Ayo Teriba,Chief Executive Officer,Economic Associates,is optimistic that the CBN would be able to sustain its intervention on the forex market.Teriba told NAN that increase in oil production and high oil prices had increased the foreign reserve base of the country,''We are back to a situation wher
