 Truck falls on car, claims three lives in Ondo Three travellers lost their lives while one person sustained injuries yesterday after a truck fell onto a car along the busy Ondo-Ore highway. The truck fully loaded with beer, which belongs to the Nigerian Brewery, was said to have lost control at the Liyetu axis of Ondo town in the Ondo West Local Council Area of the state. The vehicle on which the truck fell, a Golf 111 car with the number plate BUR 852 TS, was conveying passengers along the route when the accident happened. Confirming the accident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, stated that the remains of the deceased persons had been deposited at the mortuary while the injured passenger was moved to the hospital for treatment. A 30- year – old graduate of the Federal Polytechnics Nekede in Imo state, Nerus Elemamba, has committed suicide.  His body was found dangling in his room on Monday evening in his village in Umuohii, Oboama community in the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.  This is after he had participated in the day’s village manual labour earlier carried out by his peers.  A source who spoke to our correspondent in confidence this Tuesday morning said that the deceased who studied Architecture in school didn’t show any sign of depression.  The source said “the young man, Nerus, is from Umuohii Village in Oboama Ezinihitte Mbaise Imo State. Suspended Senator Ningi Resigns  Senator Abdul Ningi has resigned his position as the chairman of the Northern Senators Forum (NSF). This comes barely an hour after Ningi was suspended for three months for alleging that the 2024 budget had been padded with illegal projects worth over N3 trillion. Earlier, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim moved the motion for Ningi’s suspension for 12 months over allegations of criminal misinformation and breach of peace in the National Assembly and the country by extension. But Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong moved for the amendment of the motion by Ibrahim. Ekpenyong, who is from Cross River South Senatorial District; and Senator Abdulfatai Buhari from Oyo North prayed for the reduction of the suspension to six and three months respectively.  Minnesota Mom drowns her baby to "prove her devotion" to her boyfriend. 20-year-old Esperanza Harding has been charged with second degree murder. Harding is accused of drowning her baby in the bathtub before taking a photo of the child's body. According to official reports, in a confusing and shocking move, Harding showed up at Children's hospital in Minnesota claiming her child had died there 5 days earlier. The hospital had no records of the death and an investigation was launched. While being interviewed she confessed to police her boyfriend was pressuring her to give the child up for adoption so that he would be her first priority.  It was under this pressure that she became upset with her baby for crying during a bath.  Entire staff at a Wisconsin Dollar General quit on the same day when store cracks down on donation policies. Those trying to shop at the Dollar general store in Mineral Point, Wisconsin were met with a hand written sign stating- "We quit". Six employees, including the manager and assistant manager, walked out leaving the store with no employees. The workers say under appreciation, long hours, low pay and understaffing were all factors. However they say when corporate told them they could no longer mark down goods close to expiration dates or discontinued and then donate them to local food banks, they had had enough. In a statement from the company they confirmed that the Mineral Point Dollar General had donated 7,500 lbs of food to local food banks but said food safety was their top priority and they are required to follow Feeding America donation policies. However, they did not clarify what those policies are.

  ABANDONED BABY FOUND AT EKITI GOVERNMENT HOUSE GATE A baby was abandoned at the entrance of the Government House in the Fajuyi area of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital. The baby was discovered by an official of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Ekiti State Command. The baby, whose age cannot be ascertained, was wrapped in a cloth at the time it was found around 8 pm on Sunday, March 10. An eyewitness said: “The loud cry of the baby caught our attention, along with that of other passersby who moved alongside me to uncover the source of the noise. Initially unsure where it was coming from, we continued searching, though we were hesitant to approach the baby."  Driver  Crashes into Multiple Vehicles in Ado Ekiti, injure one person A young man name withheld on Tuesday rammed into three other vehicles in the city of Ado Ekiti damaging the vehicles. The incident happened at the Oke Oriomi area of Ado Ekiti in front of the office of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners According to reports, the amateur driver was coming from the Okesa axis but on sighting a patrol team of police, out of anxiety he switched his lexus Toyota car to reverse mode but lost control of the vehicle. In the process, the driver rammed into three other vehicles and injured a woman on a motorcycle. Witnesses worried over the high rate of accidents involving young men  called for urgent action. At the moment, the driver has been handed over to the traffic department of the Ekiti State Police Command.

 Reps to restrain banks from holding customers’ reversed funds The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, mandated the Central Bank of Nigeria to restrain commercial banks from holding reversed funds of customers beyond the timeline stipulated by the apex bank. The resolution of the House followed the adoption of a motion titled, “Need to restrain commercial banks from holding funds reversal beyond the date prescribed by the Central Bank of Nigeria,” moved by a member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo.  Makinde okays beaded crowns for Onifiditi, Elempe Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has approved the presentation of staff of office and beaded crowns to Onifiditi of Fiditi, Oba Sikiru Akanni Oyelese and Elempe of Tapa, Oba Titilola Oyekanmi Sunday. The company had earlier issued a new price review notification to all its customers in the West Zone. A letter dated Monday, February 12, 2024, stated that the price review, effective from Monday, February 19, 2024, had become imperative to offset the impact of increased production expenses. Meanwhile, on Monday, another press statement dated March 8, 2024, was sent to customers around the West zone and signed by its Zonal Business manyager, Lekan Awosanya, announcing a new price increase.  Oyo bans use of styrofoam, others The Oyo State Government on Monday banned the use of styrofoam for food services, storage, and other related purposes. The state House of Assembly had, on Thursday, February 8, 2024, urged the state government to ban the use of styrofoam for food purposes in the state. It, therefore, inaugurated the Food Safety Compliance Enforcement Task Force to oversee the enforcement of food safety rules and regulations in the state. The state Commissioner for Health, Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, who made this announcement during the Food Safety Stakeholders Forum, and the inauguration of the task force, held at the conference room of the ministry, Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan, the state capital, said the decision was part of government efforts to uphold food safety standards in the state.  Ogun shuts Steel Company over gas explosion The Ogun State Government has shut Phoenix Steel Mills Industries Limited in Ogijo,  Sagamu Local Government with immediate effect following gas explosion in the factory. Commissioner for the Environment, Ola Oresanya announced the immediate closure of the Iron Rod manufacturing Industry after an on the spot assessment of the explosion area which affected almost the entire production line of the company. Oresanya said under the rule of engagement with all the industries in the state, the state government would after this seal up do a thorough investigation on the remote and immediate causes of the explosion with a view of knowing how to prevent future occurrence.
