  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Brooklyn pastor who was robbed while preaching charged with wire fraud and lying to FBI Lamor Whitehead, the 45-year-old pastor who goes by “Bishop,” was charged with wire fraud, attempted wire fraud, attemted extortion and making a material false statement, the US Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York announced. He faces up to 65 years in prison for his alleged crimes. As the pastor of Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministry, Whitehead allegedly defrauded one of his parishioners out of about $90,000 from her retirement savings over the course of at least 14 months beginning around April 2020, according to the indictment. The document said Whitehead told the parishioner he would use her money to help her buy a home and invest the rest of the money, but instead used it “to purchase thousands of dollars of luxury goods and clothing” and “for his own purposes.”

Clement Odera alias Hamisi was arraigned before Milimani Chief Magistrate Micheni Wendy over allegations of conspiracy to defraud a job seeker.  It was alleged that between November 1, 2021, and October 25, 2022, he conspired with another person yet to be arrested to defraud one Christopher Nyalenda Sino of Ksh1,866,000 by falsely pretending that he would help him secure a job as a driver with a commissioner at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). Umahi’s Aide Shot Dead In Anambra State A yet-to-be identified gunmen have killed Barrister Leonard Alegu in Anambra State.  According to report, the gunmen tried to kidnap him but when Leonard tried resisting them, they fired a shot at him and killed him. Nigeria gathered that that his lifeless body has been deposited in a mortuary in Anambra State. Barr Leo was a Member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission and Senior Technical Assistant to Governor Umahi.

Capt de Jager is the Detective Service Branch Commander of SAPS Wonderpoortpoort. Last week community members were again delighted to a visit by 'Father Christmas' and his entourage as they made their way through the streets of Wonderboompoort in a red truck filled with treats.  This annual CPF initiative aims to give back to community members during the festive season. The SAPS members and CPF representatives were joined by Emergency Management Services (EMS) and various other stakeholders. More photos below.

Cambridge Dictionary Slammed For Changing Gender Definitions December 14, 2022   Cambridge Dictionary has been called out on social media after it changed the definitions of “man” and “woman” genders.   The new definition was adjusted to include people who identify as a gender other than their biological s3x.   The definition of woman, which previously was about the s3x a person was born as, according to the Cambridge Dictionary, now states that a woman is “an adult who lives and identifies as female though they may have been said to have a different s3x at birth.”   A man is now defined as “an adult who lives and identifies as male though they may have been said to have a different s3x at birth.”   However, these changes sparked wide criticisms on social media as many argued that redefining society’s categorization of gender and s3x is harmful and inaccurate.   Christopher Rufo, a fellow at the Manhattan Institute, tweeted. “Cambridge Dictionary just dropped a new definition of ‘woman

NSHA To Pass 2023 Appropriation Bill In Next 24-Hours -Speaker  Speaker Ibrahim Abdullahi Balarabe has announced that the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA) will pass the 2023 appropriation bill in the next 24-hours.  He made this known, Monday while receiving the report on the bill from the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr Aliyu Dogara during plenary in Lafia.  The Speaker said if passed for Governor Sule's assent into law, it would enable the state government to provide the much needed dividends of democracy to the people of the State.

Dangote cement stops supplies to South-East states and some part of South-South over insecurity.  The Association of Dangote Cement Transport Drivers in Obajana, Kogi State, has reportedly urged all of its members to boycott cement shipment to five states in the South-East and some part of south/ south.  In a widely circulated memo, the association said it reached the decision due to the security situation in Anambra state and the South-east region. The memo dated December 11, 2022, and sent by the drivers’ association to the company, said, “We kindly write this short notice to the company that we are returning some waybills of the southeast state Nigeria. “We driver (sic) are not going to some part (sic) of southeast Nigeria due to ongoing situation of the site those part (sic) of southeast are as follows:  1. Enugu,  2. Anambra,  3. Abia,  4. Imo,  5. Ebonyi,  6. Akwa Ibom.”.   Read the memo below.

Abuja High Court sitting in Maitama has formerly granted Anita Okoye and Paul Okoye divorce. Recall that in August 2021, Anita Okoye filed for divorce after 8 years of marriage. Anita Okoye cited five major reasons for her decision to divorce her husband: "cheating, a claimed separation, being an absent parent, fraud, and difficult experiences." She, therefore, requested a settlement of $20,000 monthly as well as a number of Paul' houses. Earlier on, in her divorce petition signed by her lawyer, Ojonimi Akpe and Okutepa J.S, Anita had claimed that she contributed N10 million as an agreement with Paul that she would be granted space at the mall he had just completed in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. ICPC To Appeal Court’s Ruling on Ex-Governor’s P.A. Case The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), is set to appeal the ruling of the Bauchi State High Court which discharged and acquitted Sanusi Mohammed Isa, a former personal assistant to ex-Governor of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda. Justice Rabi T. Umar, the Chief Judge of Bauchi State and the presiding judge in the case, had on 13th December, 2022, discharged and acquitted Sanusi Mohammed Isa on all the 36 – count charges against him bordering on corruption, and ordered the release of “all his properties in the possession of the Commission”. The ICPC traced and seized 220 flats, located in 20 estates, belonging to Sanusi Mohammed Isa in 2017. The houses range from two-bedroom to three-bedroom flats.
