  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.       Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria staged a protest at the entrance of the National Assembly on Wednesday. Shouting “Allah Akbar,” the protesters forcefully entered the Assembly complex. They moved towards the second gate which leads to the chambers, as policemen on security duty at the complex advised them against the action. The Shiites have regularly held street protests to press for the release of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been in detention since December 2015. Zakzaky is being held by the Department of State Security, while facing charges for culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of public peace.More details later and more photos below.

       The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Sokoto Zonal Office, on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 arraigned one Umaru Isma’ila before Justice Bello Duwale of the Sokoto State High court, sitting in Sokoto, on a two-count charge, bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N668, 000 (Six Hundred and Sixty Eight Thousand Naira). The complainant, Sani Musa alleged that sometime in 2017, he met the defendant through his frien d, Mujitafa, who invited him to Sokoto to meet the defendant, whom he claimed could produce money through voodoo. Musa disclosed that he travelled to meet Isma’ila, who told him that he will pray for him to be rich but that he had to buy some perfumes for the prayers. For that, the defendant collected several amounts of money from him on different dates. The complainant disclosed that he later found out that the whole thing was a fraud and that all efforts for him to recover his money proved abortive. Count one reads: "That yo

      The President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump, accompanied by Mrs Melania Trump, has accepted an invitation from Her Majesty The Queen to pay a State Visit to the UK. The visit will take place from Monday 3rd June to Wednesday 5th June this year. President Trump and Mrs Trump previously joined The Queen for tea at Windsor Castle in July 2018. The Queen has hosted two previous State Visits from Presidents of the United States of America. President  George W. Bush and Mrs Bush made a State Visit in November 2003. President Barack Obama and Mrs Obama made a State Visit to the UK in May 2011. The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh have made four State Visits to the USA, during Her Majesty’s reign.       President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday unveiled the newly reconstructed Institute of Maternal And Child Health popularly known as Ayinke House located within the premises of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja, describing it as a critical and timely intervention by the State Government in the health sector. Ayinke House, which is Nigeria’s biggest Maternity Hospital, was upgraded from an 80-bed facility to a 170-bed healthcare centre with state-of-the-art medical equipment, as well as information technology services.
