 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  The 2022 Met Gala, otherwise known as the First Monday in May, is back once again! After being canceled in 2020 and held in September last year, the glitzy event returns to its usual time slot this year. Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, A-list celebrities will descend upon the red carpet in celebration of the museum’s new exhibition, “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” which will serve as an exploration of American fashion. Tonight’s event is the coming out ball for “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” Part two of curator Andrew Bolton’s in-depth look at American style, the exhibition explores the work of famous names in fashion (Halston, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, etc.) and those that have been overlooked (like Ann Lowe, the African American maker of Jacqueline Kennedy’s wedding gown), with approximately 100 garments presented across 13 of the Met’s American period rooms, each of which has been styled by renowned film directors, from Martin Scorsese to Julia Dash, Sofia Coppola to Chloe Zhao. Akwa Ibom Stadium To Host 2022 CAF Champions League Final The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo will host the 2022 CAF Champions League final scheduled for Sunday, May 29. CAF officials had visited the Akwa Ibom stadium over four weeks ago to inspect the state of the sporting facilities according to the Senior Special Assistant on Sports to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Paul Bassey. Aside the stadium, the delegation also inspected the Victor Attah International Airport, Ibom Icon Hotel and Golf Resort and Ibom Specialist Hospital among others in line with CAF standard for host city. Al Ahly of Egypt that who have won a record 10 Champions League titles will face ES Setif of Algeria in the semi-final. The Egyptian giant will be hoping to reach their 3rd consecutive finals, having won the last two finals.
