 Govt extends search for fleeing 4,000 inmates to IDP camps …to comb villages, towns, environs of fugitive prisoners  The Nigeria Correctional Service has stepped up efforts to track down and recapture escaped inmates of the Suleja Medium Security Custodial Centre, Niger State, Saturday PUNCH has learnt. The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Thursday, said the government would relocate a lot of correctional centres to create better infrastructure and security. Tunji-Ojo made the pledge when he visited the Niger custodial centre, where 119 inmates had escaped following a rainstorm that damaged the facility on Wednesday. This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Ozoya Imohimi. The minister said it was imperative to relocate a lot of the correctional centres to a conducive environment. “This facility was built in 1914 to house 250 inmates. Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan Escapes Death, Loses 2 Aides in Auto crash. Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan was on Wednesday evening involved in an auto crash in Abuja which claimed the lives of two his aides. One of his aides, who confirmed the accident, said Jonathan was fine and okay. As of the time of filing this story, the former president was said to be at home. The accident occurred when the ECOWAS Special Envoy was on his way from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to his residence in Abuja. One more photo below.

Queen of drug cartel, cross-border trafficker arrested in Taraba, Adamawa A notorious queen of drug cartel supplying psychoactive substances to traffickers in Taraba state, Lami Mai Rigima has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA months after being on their wanted list. The 40-year-old queen of the drug world came under the anti-narcotic agencys searchlight when a number of traffickers arrested in the state in 2021 and early this year fingered her as their supplier. The manhunt for Lami paid off on Monday 4th April when operatives tracked her to her hideout in Iware village in Ardo Kola local government area of Taraba.  The search for Lami began in October 2021 following the arrest, prosecution and conviction of a drug dealer, Abdullahi Madaki, 50. After serving his brief jail sentence, Madaki returned to the illicit trade with Lami still as his supplier. EFCC Docks Ex-Legislative Aide for N6.5m Fraud, Three Others Convicted of Cybercrime in Kwara The Ilorin Zonal Command of the EFCC, on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 arraigned one Segun Emmanuel Oni, a Personal Assistant to former Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial Constituency, Senator Simeon Ajibola, for criminal breach of trust and fraud to the tune of N6.5million. Oni, 42, from Isapa in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State was arraigned before Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of the Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin on a two-count charge contrary to Section 311 of the Penal Code Law and punishable under Section 312 of the same Penal Code. Oni was allegedly entrusted with two Toyota Siena mini bus and one Toyota Rav4 by one Mr. Samson Adewoye, which he sold and converted the proceeds to personal use. The defendant pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him.

A Kenyan man simply identified as Muima, has revealed his plans to marry Thereza, 85. In a new video by Afrimax English on YouTube, the couple shared their love story and decision to get married. According to Tuko website, the couple first met while Muima and some of his friends were searching for a house to rent. They ended up renting her house and she would often call Muima, "My husband". Speaking about his love life, Muima said, "This is my choice. This is my happiness, as anyone else has theirs. Member of Nigerian House of Representatives and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Umar Muda, representing Toro federal constituency in Bauchi State, has introduced a bill seeking to prohibit cross-dressing in Nigeria.  The proposed bill was read on the floor of the House of Representatives on Tuesday and will be subsequently considered by the house if it scales necessary hurdles. If the bill proposed by the 35-year-old legislator is passed, cross-dressing will become an offence in the country with the exemption of those using it for entertainment, but those found culpable will be liable to six months jail term or a fine. “A person engaging in cross-dressing is guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment of 6 months or to a fine of five hundred thousand naira,” the bill says. Addressing the newly inaugurated members, Governor Uzodimma charged them to bring forth their wealth of experiences and skills in the discharge of the task ahead for the benefit of Imo people. The program which is a National Action Plan for the revitalization of Nigeria's WASH sector, is aimed at ensuring access to sustainable and safely-managed WASH service by 2030 in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for water.
