 Fuel scarcity bites harder in Abuja, Ondo, Osun, others • Independent marketers sell PMS between N625 and N799 per litre There is no succour yet for motorists and other petrol end users despite the Thursday statement by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) that it had resolved the logistic problems that sparked the supply crisis. Reports from across the country yesterday showed that many filling stations had no fuel to sell. Some sold over and above the threshold of N650 per litre while motorists and other buyers besieged the few ones that sold within the range of N600 per litre. While many petrol stations in Lagos sold fuel at the normal price and queues were not noticeable, it was a different story in the industrial town of Ota, Ogun State where some filling stations hiked their pump price to N799 per litre. Uzodinma Seals, Demolishes Hotel Belonging To PDP Campaign Chairman The hotel was reportedly marked for total demolition by the state government, with a 21-day notice served on its management. Imo state Governor Hope Uzodinma has reportedly ordered the closure of properties belonging to Evangelist Mike Ikoku, Chairman of the Divine Mandate Movement Campaign Organisation, a campaign council for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the November 11 governorship election in the state. The fierce-looking men, who claimed to be acting on 'orders from above' manhandled the General Manager of the hotel, leaving her with a broken arm. Disciplinary Tribunal Clears Amusan Of Doping Violations, AIU Vows To Appeal A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period. AIU Head Brett Clothier has indicated the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the applicable deadline. The decision is currently confidential but will be published in due course. Amusan’s provisional suspension has now been lifted with immediate effect.

The committee comprises the Nigerian Governors Forum Chairman, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Governor of Anambra State,Chukwuma Soludo; Chairman of Progressives Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma of Imo State; PDP Governors Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti. Pensioners Receives Over N2B in Jigawa. Jigawa state and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme  commences the payment of terminal benefit worth over two point twenty four  billion Naira to 746 beneficiaries.  Executive Secretary of the scheme, Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu Musa disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital. He explained that, over one point seven billion naira was paid as gratuity to six hundred and thirty eight to state, local government and local education authority staff. The Executive Secretary noted that over two hundred and twelve million naira was paid as death benefit to families of seventy eight civil servants. Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu Musa further explained that, the scheme also paid over twenty six point eight million naira to twenty nine families of pensioners as well as death pension balance. Vice President Shettima Presides Over NEC Vice-President Kashim Shettima is presiding over a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) in the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja. This is the third NEC meeting of the President Bola Tinubu administration. The meeting comes amidst high inflation and hardship caused by the economic policies of the federal government. The council consists of the 36 state governors, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other government officials. Today’s meeting is expected to consider varying issues, including the Federation’s financial status and other general issues. FG Announces N5bn To Each State As palliatives Federal Government has announced N5billion palliative to each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal. Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum made the announcement during an interactive session with State House correspondents in Abuja on Thursday. Zulum outlined some of the issues discussed during the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday, led by Vice President, Kashim Shettima. The Governors of the 36 states of the federation, Ministers of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL are all members of the NEC. Abandoned newborn baby found under a tree in Bauchi A newborn baby girl was found abandoned under a tree near a hospital in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State.    According to an elementary teacher, Auwal Maisalati Shira, the baby was left on leaves under the tree close to Ambara Hospital around 12 noon on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.    The baby was fully clothed and placed on a fabric.    Mr. Auwal said he and the social welfare officer of Shira LGA took the baby to the maternity ward of the hospital. Emefiele weeps, dodges camera as arraignment for fraud stalls The suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele wept in Court on Thursday after the High court of the Federal Capital Territory adjourned his arraignment to August 23, 2023. The Nation reports that the case was stalled due to the absence of another defendant, Sa’adatu Yaro, in a corruption and conspiracy case brought against them by the Federal government. Emefiele was seen weeping after the adjournment, while being consoled by some of his lawyers. Emefiele, Yaro and a firm, known as April 1616 Investment Ltd, were accused of engaging in conspiracy and procurement fraud, among others. He is also accused of conferring corrupt advantages on his associates, including Yaro, said to be a Director in April 1616 to the tune of N6.9 billion.  UNICAL suspends Dean over alleged sexual harassment The management of the University of Calabar( UNICAL) has suspended the Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Cyril Ndifon for alleged violation of the provisions of the extant laws and policies of the institution. The suspension came days after some law students of the institution protested alleged s3xual harassment against the dean.  He was suspended in 2015 for the same issue but was said to have cleared himself after a legal tussle.  A letter by the University Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, said the current suspension takes effect from August 17, 2023. According to the letter, the suspension came on the heels of the Dean’s response to a query by the University Management which the Vice Chancellor was dissatisfied with.
