  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.                           The arraignment of officials of Mafa Local Government council indicted in a fraud case bordering on stealing of food meant for internally displaced persons in the council area could not go ahead today as planned owing to the absence of Shettima Lawan Maina,caretaker chairman of the council who was to be docked alongside Umar Ibrahim a supervisory Councillor and Bulama Ali Zagebe. I brahim was arrested early this month for conspiracy and selling 300 bags of rice donated by the Danish Refugee Council for IDPs in Mafa council area.He had claimed during interrogation that he acted on the directive of Maina.When counsel to EFCC K. Sanusi sought leave of the court for the accused to take their pleas,counsel to the 2nd and 3rd defendants raised objection based on the absence of Main in court.Thereafter,Justice F. Umaru adjourned the case to the 9th of February 2017 for prosecution to amend the charge and arraign the suspects accordingly.

6 DIED,HOUSE BURNT TODAY IN TARABA STATE AFTER FULANI & MUMMUYE ETHNIC GROUP CLASHED.

                                               According to sources,at least 10 people have killed and several houses burnt in fresh violence that erupted today tuesday in Taraba State.But police said six people died in the clashes between the Fulani and Mummuye ethnic groups in Lau Local Government area of the state.Locals say today's violence started around 2a.m when a village,named Bonja,and Mayo-Kunga belonging to Fulani ethnic group,was attacked by suspected Mummuye youth.The attacks on the Mayo-Kunga village led to reprisals attacks on neighnouring communities.The Police Public Relations Officer for Taraba State,David Misal,said only six people were killed in the conflict.''Since the friday attack betwen the Fulani herdsmen and Mummuye farmers in Lushi,there have been reprisal attacks.For now six persons were confirmed killed on both sides while several others have been arrested,'' the PPRO said.Mr Misal,an Assistant superintendent of police,also confirmed tha

                 According to sources,police has arrested the publisher of the Biafran Times Magazine,30 years old Peter Eke,at Somolu area of Lagos State.He was arrested alongside his staff of hi publishing firm-Azeez Ayoola {30},Kunle Olushola {22} and Akeem Adebakin {49}.Others are Ayodeji Gbemi {30},Akeem Bisiriyu {34} and Shakiu Folohunsho {25}.The state Commissioner of Police,Fatai Owoseni,paraded the publisher and staff of the printing company before journalists at the Command Headquarters,Ikeja yesterday.He described the publication as ''seditious'' which could bring disharmony and chaos in the state.Owoseni said the command would invoke the Law on anyone playing an ethnic tune and working against the unity of the country.But Eke said he did not know that publishing the Biafran Times magazine in the state was an offence.He said: ''I have published some sporting papers before because of low patronage,i decided to publish the Biafran Times because I knew I
