  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Police arrest two men for killing three-week-old baby in Nasarawa The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has arrested two young men for killing a three-week-old baby in Ungwan Maina, Lafia Local Government Area of the state. The command's Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, in a statement yesterday in Lafia, said the two suspects: Abdulkadir Ahmed and Hassan Sabo are currently in detention while further investigation is ongoing. The statement read: "Police operatives attached to 'D' Division, Lafia, have arrested the duo of Abdulkadir Ahmed and Hassan Sabo, both males and 40yrs old of Ungwan Maina, Lafia, for killing a three weeks old child. Zamfara Government Shuts Down 4 Media Houses For Covering PDP Rally The Zamfara State Government has shut down the offices of NTA, Pride FM, Gamji TV and Al’umma TV in the state for covering the political gathering of the PDP governorship candidate, Dauda Lawal. DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the event took place on Saturday at the residence of the PDP candidate in Gusau GRA-Ring Road. The decision was announced on the state radio on Saturday evening by the state commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara. The government also directed the state commissioner of police, Yusuf Kolo, to arrest all journalists that attended the event. Although Mr Dosara did not reveal reasons for closing the stations, informed sources said the reason might not be unconnected with the stations’ live coverage of the political gathering of Mr Lawal.

DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND RESCUES A KIDNAPPED VICTIM DEATH OF A SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER/ARREST OF A SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER/RECOVERY OF ONE PUMP ACTION GUN, ONE CUT-TO-SIZE LOCALLY MADE GUN AND NINE LIVE CARTRIDGES On 10/10/2022, the DPO Agbarho Division received a distress call that one man (name withheld) was kidnapped at his residence in Warri alongside his highlander SUV(Reg. No. withheld), and that the hoodlums were advancing towards Agbarho, the DPO CSP Samuel Ogwa swiftly mobilized and led operatives who positioned strategically on the road. As they were monitoring movement of vehicles, they sighted the highlander vehicle as described by the distress caller, but the driver unsurprisingly made a u-turn in a bid to escape. They were  given a hot chase by the team led by the DPO and the hoodlums on noticing the determination of the team, abandoned the vehicle and escaped into a nearby bush. Jubilation in Yobe as for the first time aircrafts landed in the state's airport.  The new cargo international airport in Damaturu constructed by Gov Mai Mala Buni administration can also be used for conventional airport purpose.  Before this multi billion Naira project, Yobe used to be the only state in the Northeast without airport, neither federal nor state owned.  The cargo international airport in Damaturu is the second cargo airport in Northern Nigeria after that of Lafia. The Lagos State Police Command Spokesman, Sp Benjamin Hundeyin captioned the it as follows:  "In Ikorodu, these two duped a woman to the tune of N7.5m under the guise of providing ‘spiritual help.’ She realized the fraud and approached the police. They were apprehended when they arranged to get another batch of funds from her. Investigation is ongoing".

Kano Police Command Arrested APC Ward Chairman In Possession Of Over 300 PVCs The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Civil Society organisations under the auspices Alliance for Good Governance have demanded immediate prosecution of the APC chairman arrested in possession of over three hundred (300) permanent voter’s card PVCs in Kano. The suspect simply identified as Aminu Ali Shana who is the APC chairman in Yautan Arewa ward, Gabasawa local government of Kano state was arrested on Friday 14th October, 2022. The offence is contrary to section 21 and 22 subsection 1 (a), (b) and (c) of the electoral act 2022 as amended. The police have already transferred the suspect to the department of criminal investigation (CID) of Kano state command in Bompai for further investigation. 🏷️ 🧸Please look after this bear The Queen Consort is pictured with some of the 1,000 teddy bears that were left in tribute to Queen Elizabeth, and will shortly find new loving homes with Barnardo's children’s services. The bears have been scrubbed up to look their best, before they are delivered to their loving new home. The bears are currently being well looked after at Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and in the Royal Parks nursery located in Hyde Park.   The photograph was taken at Clarence House on 13 October 2022 - the 64th anniversary of the publication of the first Paddington bear book.

EFCC Arrests 12 Bankers for Suspected Insider  Fraud in Enugu The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, October 14, 2022 arrested twelve (12) bankers for suspected insider fraud.    The suspects are: Odeniyi Anthony, Deki Kingsley Onyekachi, Oguchukwu Ene, Elendu Chizaram, Anyakora Uchenna, Onah Kingsley, Akwe Elizabeth and  Chinenye Grace Acibe.  Others are:  Victoria Ezedie, Chidi-Ukah Obinna, Etoh Lawrence Uzochukwu and Udeze Harrison. Preliminary investigations showed that the suspects allegedly stole funds from some  dormant accounts in a  branch of an old generation bank in Enugu.   The stolen funds were transferred from the dormant accounts to various beneficiaries,  with the principal beneficiary already identified by the EFCC.   The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.   More photos below .

Pregnant woman, female undergraduate, 26 others arrested with tons of illicit drugs in NDLEA raids across FCT, 12 states . 9 Ghanaians get 72 years in jail for smuggling 10,843kgs cannabis into Nigeria A pregnant woman, a nursing mother and a 200-level university student were among 28 persons arrested with 9,437.6 kilograms of cannabis and 138,053 tablets of pharmaceutical opioids among others by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA during interdiction operations across 12 states: Yobe, Ondo, Edo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Jigawa, Kogi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Kwara, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. In the FCT, operatives on Saturday 15th October stormed a village known as Chukuku, which is about 10 kilometers from Gwagwalada where they raided a large cannabis warehouse.
