 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud.       The Lagos State House Assembly on Tuesday during plenary set-up a committee to investigate the purchase of 820 buses by the administration of former governor Akinwunmi Ambode of the state. The House stated that it was important to investigate the purchase of the 820 buses out of the 5,000 buses proposed by former governor Akinwunmi Ambode for mass transit in the state, but which was purchased despite objection by the House of Assembly. In a motion titled; Lagos State House of Assembly Motion Number 2, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti Osa 2), explained that the House noted that at the Executive/ Legislative parley held at Golden Tulip in FESTAC in September 2017, Ambode informed the lawmakers that 5,000 buses would be bought by the state government. He stated that the executive proposed to spend N17 billion to purchase the buses in the 2017 budget, but that this was not approved by the Assembly. ONE DEAD,MANY INJURED AS DANGOTE CEMENT TRUCK COLLIDES WITH A BRT BUS IN LAGOS TODAY.{PHOTOS}.

      A tragic accident which occurred in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, left a BRT bus passenger dead and many others injured. The sad incident occurred on Tuesday morning, after a cement truck belonging to Dangote company veered off its lane and collided with a 60-seater high capacity Bus Rapid Transit BRT. Confirming the accident which led to a traffic gridlock as the road was cordoned off on both sides for easy rescue and evacuation operation, the General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.More photos below.

INTERNET FRAUD: $314,000,N373M RECOVERED THROUGH EFCC-FBI COLLABORATION-MAGU.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

     The acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has disclosed that the collaboration between the Commission and the Federal Bureau of Investigations, FBI, has led to the recovery of the sums of $314,000 (Three Hundred and Fourteen Thousand US Dollars) and about N373,000,000 (Three Hundred and Seventy-three Million Naira) from perpetrators of computer-related   frauds. Magu said while the sum of $314,000 had been recovered, the sum of N373m had been traced to various commercial banks by the Lagos Zonal office of the Commission. He also disclosed that the recent joint operations coordinated by the Commission had yielded 28 arrests, adding that 14 suspects had been charged and convicted.        Nigerian bolt driver brutally murdered by unknown gunmen in South Africa to be buried on August 30th... 43-year-old Nigerian bolt driver, Benjamin Okoronkwo, will be laid to rest on Friday, August 30, in his hometown, Okposi, Ohaozara Local Government of Ebonyi State. Okoronkwo was shot dead in his car by unknown assailants at about 3 a.m on August 3, in South Africa. The deceased is survived by two children and a pregnant wife. Rip to him.

The Kaduna State Executive Council today approved that payment of the new national minimum wage and consequential adjustments to civil servants will begin from 1st September 2019. “The Executive Council meeting, chaired by Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, the Deputy Governor, noted the commitment of Governor Nasir El-Rufai to strengthen the public service an d its capacity to deliver quality and responsive public service. The council deliberated on the minimum wage memo and unanimously approved commencement of the implementation in September 2019. “The Executive Council stated its that commitment to the public service includes a desire to improve the standard of living of workers in the state. Pursuant to that, the Kaduna State Government launched a pay review process early in 2018.
