His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed today performed the launching of empowerment programme under Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme (KEEP) for beneficiaries in Ganjuwa and Darazo Local Government Areas of the state. At the ceremony in Kafin Madaki of Ganjuwa Local Government and Darazo Local Government separately, Governor Bala said the occasion is a continuation of the formal launching of the programme in all the 20 Local Government Areas of the State. He said the empowerment items are part of the package the State Government earmarked to address unemployment and poverty in the state.   The All Progressives Congress has refuted reports in the media that it has suspended former Imo State Governor Senator Rochas Okorocha. The party in a statement by its Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, John James Akpanudoedehe, described the purported letter announcing the senator’s suspension as fake. In the statement titled, ‘APC Alerts on fake letter of Senator Rochas Okorocha ‘Suspension’, Akpanudoehede said the letter was forged.  The “fake” letter had claimed that Okorocha was suspended by the APC for alleged anti-party activities on Tuesday.   The statement read, “It has come to the attention of the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress that a fake letter of a purported suspension of Senator Rochas Okorocha from the party is circulating in the public space. “Fifth columnists and forgers have obviously taken advantage of the unfortunate and recent leaks of our official correspondences with the Independent National Electora...

  According to a letter from the party’s Imo State chapter dated July 12, 2021, Mr Rochas was suspended for anti-party activity.“This is to inform you that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has ratified your suspension by the Imo State Chapter of our great party for anti-party activities,” the letter said. The ruling party accused Mr Rochas of “Continuous discrete meetings with the opposition party both at the state and national level, working in opposition to the APC-led government in Imo state, and flagrant public abuse on the person and office of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria (an APC-led government). “This suspension follows after the recommendation by the Imo State Disciplinary Committee set up to investigate allegations of gross anti-party activities against you which is in line with Article 21 (B) I-VI of the party’s constitution,” the APC said.   Senate Confirms Five As INEC Commissioners  The Senate has rejected Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of five National Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This was done following the consideration of the report of its Committee on INEC. The nominees of the President, Muhammadu Buhari who were confirmed were, Prof. Muhammad Sani Kallah (Katsina); Prof. Kunle Ajayi ( Ekiti); and Saidu Ahmad (Jigawa), Baba Bila (North East) and Abdullahi Zuru (North- West). In keeping with the promise by Governor Hope Uzodimma to recover the commonwealth of Ndi Imo, the Government of Imo state has recovered IBC properties at Orji in Owerri North Local Goverment Area covering a total of 48 hectare of land.  The recovery is in line with the white paper recommendations. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, arraigned one Jamiu Jimmy Ajose on a three-count charge bordering on forgery, possession of forged documents and making false statements to an officer of the EFCC before Justice Chukwujekwu of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today July 13, 2021 re-arraigned a former governor of Kaduna State, Muktar Ramalan Yero before Justice M.G Umar of the Federal High Court, Kaduna on an eight count amended charge of money laundering. Yero is being prosecuted by the EFCC alongside Nuhu Somo Wya (a former Minister), Ishaq Hamsa (former Secretary to Kaduna State Government) and Abubakar Gaiya Haruna (former Chairman of People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the state) for their alleged involvement in the sharing of Seven Hundred Million Naira (N700, 000,000.00) provided by former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke to influence the outcome of the 2015 presidential election. Their re-arraignment today followed the transfer of the former trial judge, Justice Zainab B. Abubakar to another division of the Federal High Court.   A Committee comprising officials of the Federal and Ogun State Governments has been set up, to engender a developmental plan for the Lagos/Ibadan railway corridors to forestall illegal activities, which may become future threat to commuters and rail services. Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Tpl. Tunji Odunlami while speaking at the inauguration of the Committee in Lagos, said the move was in anticipation on the tendency for people to build slums or shanties along the corridors and rail stations located within the State. The leadership of the House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria on Tuesday submitted the report of its Special Committee on National Security to President Muhammadu Buhari The Speaker, Rep.Femi Gbajabiamila, led other principal officers to the State House in Abuja to present the document to Mr President. The report contained far-reaching recommendations by the committee, which was chaired by Mr Speaker, on how to tackle the growing insecurity in Nigeria. The committee had held a Special Summit on National Security in Abuja on May 25, where major stakeholders x-rayed the security challenges of the country and came up with recommendations as part of the legislative interventions to address the situation. The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to roll out the New Lagos Identity Card, “LAG ID” for residents of the State. This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ms. Yinka Fashola during an Internal Stakeholders Workshop held on Saturday, 10th July, 2021, at Alausa, Ikeja. In her address, Ms. Fashola revealed that the Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring the successful rollout of the card as she encouraged all enrolment officers to be proactive and show commitment to achieving the registration of 100 residents per day. She expressed confidence that the target of registering 10 million residents before the end of the year can be achieved.
