 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud.   The All Progressives Congress has refuted reports in the media that it has suspended former Imo State Governor Senator Rochas Okorocha. The party in a statement by its Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, John James Akpanudoedehe, described the purported letter announcing the senator’s suspension as fake. In the statement titled, ‘APC Alerts on fake letter of Senator Rochas Okorocha ‘Suspension’, Akpanudoehede said the letter was forged.  The “fake” letter had claimed that Okorocha was suspended by the APC for alleged anti-party activities on Tuesday.   The statement read, “It has come to the attention of the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress that a fake letter of a purported suspension of Senator Rochas Okorocha from the party is circulating in the public space. “Fifth columnists and forgers have obviously taken advantage of the unfortunate and recent leaks of our official correspondences with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

APC SUSPENDS ROCHAS OKOROCHA FOR INSULTING PRESIDENT BUHARI IN PUBLIC.{PHOTOS}.

  According to a letter from the party’s Imo State chapter dated July 12, 2021, Mr Rochas was suspended for anti-party activity.“This is to inform you that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has ratified your suspension by the Imo State Chapter of our great party for anti-party activities,” the letter said. The ruling party accused Mr Rochas of “Continuous discrete meetings with the opposition party both at the state and national level, working in opposition to the APC-led government in Imo state, and flagrant public abuse on the person and office of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria (an APC-led government). “This suspension follows after the recommendation by the Imo State Disciplinary Committee set up to investigate allegations of gross anti-party activities against you which is in line with Article 21 (B) I-VI of the party’s constitution,” the APC said.   Senate Confirms Five As INEC Commissioners  The Senate has rejected Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of five National Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This was done following the consideration of the report of its Committee on INEC. The nominees of the President, Muhammadu Buhari who were confirmed were, Prof. Muhammad Sani Kallah (Katsina); Prof. Kunle Ajayi ( Ekiti); and Saidu Ahmad (Jigawa), Baba Bila (North East) and Abdullahi Zuru (North- West). The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today July 13, 2021 re-arraigned a former governor of Kaduna State, Muktar Ramalan Yero before Justice M.G Umar of the Federal High Court, Kaduna on an eight count amended charge of money laundering. Yero is being prosecuted by the EFCC alongside Nuhu Somo Wya (a former Minister), Ishaq Hamsa (former Secretary to Kaduna State Government) and Abubakar Gaiya Haruna (former Chairman of People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the state) for their alleged involvement in the sharing of Seven Hundred Million Naira (N700, 000,000.00) provided by former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke to influence the outcome of the 2015 presidential election. Their re-arraignment today followed the transfer of the former trial judge, Justice Zainab B. Abubakar to another division of the Federal High Court. The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to roll out the New Lagos Identity Card, “LAG ID” for residents of the State. This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ms. Yinka Fashola during an Internal Stakeholders Workshop held on Saturday, 10th July, 2021, at Alausa, Ikeja. In her address, Ms. Fashola revealed that the Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring the successful rollout of the card as she encouraged all enrolment officers to be proactive and show commitment to achieving the registration of 100 residents per day. She expressed confidence that the target of registering 10 million residents before the end of the year can be achieved.
