  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.         The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today July 28, 2017 secured the conviction of one Umar Kabir Danbaba before Justice Nasiru Saminu of the Kano State High Court on a one count charge of Cheating.   The convict fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,470,000 (One Million, Four Hundred amd Seventy Thousand Naira ) from the complainant for the purpose of securing and allocating mining site in Zamfara State but instead diverted the money to his personal use.

      The Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has received the endorsement of 25 countries around the world, applauding his work in fighting corruption in Nigeria. This unique validation is the outcome of an opinion poll conducted by United Kingdom based Global Peace Movement International. The poll result is coming a week after Transparency International released its latest transparency index in which Nigeria, for the first time in over a decade, moved up in the global anti corruption and transparency ranking, a move analysts said is directly related to the efforts of the EFCC.

                The EFCC has arrested one Abdulazeez Bello Azeez (alias Ahmed Abdul-Attah) for conspiracy, impersonation and obtaining by false pretence. Azeez was said to have presented himself as an associate of one retired Major General Ejiga whom he claimed to have met at the National Convention in Abuja, while he (Ejiga) was a delegate.

     The Lagos State Government on Friday expressed excitement over the release of six students of Igbonla-Epe Model College who were abducted on May 25, 2017 in their school premises. In a press statement, the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde congratulated the parents of the students and all concerned stakeholders over the development, just as he said the students would undergo series of medical tests and trauma therapy before they are reunited with their families. “This is a welcome development and the State Government has always believed that the students would be released unhurt. The news of their release is therefore a confirmation of that belief and we are glad that they would be reuniting with their families,” Ayorinde said. He said the State Government remains resolute in its commitment to ensure the safety of lives and property of residents in the State and has already beefed up security in schools to prevent a re-occurrence.

                  Studies have shown that there are up to 3 million children in the UK at risk of being hungry during the holidays, and that children can lose 80% of the fitness levels they have built up over the school year. #FitAndFed is a response to the pressing issue of holiday hunger, isolation and inactivity that many children across the countr y are experiencing over the summer holidays. During the visit, Prince Harry joined in with some of the games, and chatted to the volunteers delivering today's session about the benefits of #FitAndFed. His Royal Highness also helped to distribute healthy lunches to the children and young people, and heard more from them about what a difference the summer holiday activity sessions have made to them.More photos below.
