 Noise pollution: Lagos seals five churches, 19 hotels The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has temporarily shut down no fewer than five churches and 19 hotels over noise pollution between March 23 and April 26  Calculations by our correspondent also showed that no fewer than four markets and shopping complexes were also shut down over noise pollution and other environmental infractions.       Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday tasked the Federal Government to do everything within its powers to revive existing Ports in other States of the federation so as to bring about permanent solution to the perennial traffic congestion in Apapa axis of the State. Governor Ambode, who spoke at the Third Quarter Town Hall Meeting, the 12th in the Series, held at the Community Primary School, Iberekodo in Ibeju Lekki Local Government, said the recent chaos witnessed in the area was beyond traffic issues, saying that concerted efforts must be made to revamp moribund ports. According to him, beyond getting other ports up and running, the issue of tankers queuing up to lift petroleum products from Tank Farms in Apapa was also a major issue causing gridlock and damaging road infrastructure in the area, which according to him was inimical to the economic growth of not just the State, but Nigeria in general. 5 FEARED DEAD AS A BOAT FROM CMS TO IKORODU CAPSIZED TODAY.

      About five persons were feared dead when a boat capsized in Lagos on Wednesday evening. An eyewitness told newsmen that the boat was travelling from CMS to Ikorodu. Bodies of the victim of the accident were brought to the jetty at Ipakodo in Ikorodu, on the outskirts of Lagos. Lagos State police spokesman, Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident, noted that sixteen persons were rescued. “The information reaching us from the Marine unit of the command reveals that five persons died in the Boat mishap, while 16 persons were rescued alive, Oti said. “Our marine team is still combing the waters to see if there are other victims in the water.“The Commissioner of police, CP Imohimi Edgal has ordered the officer in charge of the marine unit to investigate the remote cause of the Boat accident.”

      A coalition of Benue youths comprising of over forty groups today prevented Governor Samuel Ortom from attending a scheduled meeting with the All Progressives Congress, APC, National leadership in Abuja. The Governor was leaving Government House, Makurdi for the trip when they blocked his route carrying placards. Some of the placards read “Ortom don’t go back to APC,” “We don’t have land to donate for ranching,” “APC is Miyetti party,” Our farms are not for cows,” You must leave APC,” Ortom is our party, ” and “2019: On Ortom we stand.” Their spokesmen, Terrence Kuanum, and Pastor Dave Ogbole adviced the Governor not to make the trip for further discussions with the APC leadership on his membership of the party but to rather look for an alternative platform.      Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, announced the resignation of his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC. He said he had rejoined the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. Fourteen of the 23 council chairmen in the state and majority of the councillors in the 276 council wards in the state pledged to follow him. He made the declaration today at the Benue Peoples House Makurdi during a meeting with the chairmen as well as leaders and other members of legislative councils across the state. The Governor stated that he took the decision after due consultations with major stakeholders in the state. His announcement came a few hours after a coalition of Benue youths stopped him from travelling to Abuja to attend a scheduled meeting with the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to resolve his differences with the leadership of the party in the state.       A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin on Tuesday granted an interim bail to Alhaji Yusuf Abdulwahab, the Chief of Staff to the Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, in the sum of N10million. Abdulwahab has been held in police custody in Abuja since 2 June, 2018 after he responded to Police invitation over his alleged link with suspects who carried out robbery attacks on commercial banks in Offa on April  5, 2018. Hon. Justice M.O. Adewara granted the bail upon carefully considering the oral application for bail made on behalf of the governor’s aide by his counsel, Mr. Adebayo Adelodun (SAN) and the response of the counsel for the respondent, the Inspector General of Police.       Anambra State Government has presented Certificates of Recognition to traditional rulers of three communities in the State.   The traditional rulers are Igwe Marcel Okori of Akpu Community in Orumba South, Igwe Nduka Mbanefo of Amiyi community in Ogbaru and Igwe Chigozie Okoli of Ndiokpalaeze community in Orumba North Council Area.  The Royal Fathers were presented the certificates by Governor Willie Obiano during a ceremony at the governor's lodge, Amawbia which attracted many personalities from the communities.More photos below.

NAF REACTIVATES ANOTHER C-130H AIRCRAFT AS CAS COMMISSIONS NEW PROJECTS IN LAGOS.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

            The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully completed the in-house life extension programme on one of its C-130H aircraft, NAF 913 thereby improving the airlift capability of the Service. According to the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, the NAF would continue to intensify efforts at reactivating unserviceable aircraft in its inventory to enhance its operational effectiveness. He stated this while assessing the progress of work on the in-country Periodic Depot Maintenance (PDM) of another NAF’s C-130 aircraft at 631 Aircraft Maintenance Depot (ACMD) during his operational visit to Lagos from 23 to 24 July 2018. The CAS, who was accompanied on the operational visit by senior officers from NAF Headquarters, also inspected and commissioned some projects at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base (SEAFB) Ikeja and the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (AFRC) Oshodi.      Justice Daniel Longji of the State High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State, has adjourned a N70million fraud trial involving Engineer Umar Saidu Bamali, Director, Nigeria Institute of Mining and Geosciences, NIMG and his Procurement Officer, Adeniyi Adeosun, to November 12, 2018.   The adjournment followed the decision of the second defendant, Adeosun, to plead guilty to the charge.  The defendants allegedly d iverted over N70million, money meant for allowances of staff of NIMG and contracts of printing of security and non-security documents.  Specifically, Bamali, in 2015 allegedly misappropriated the sum of N32million belonging to the Institute, a sum he claimed was used as allowances for staff, while nobody was promoted that year He was also said to have converted to personal use, over N17million belonging to NIMG, a sum realized by the Institute from the training conducted for Kano Youths, through the State Government.  On his part, Adeosun was said to have received
