 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Sunday, confirmed that three persons died in an accident involving an articulated vehicle and a tricycle on Mgbuka-Nkpor road in Onitsha. The Sector Commander, Andrew Kumapayi, disclosed in Awka that the accident occurred at about 1.46 p.m. Kumapayi explained that the driver of the articulated vehicle with no registration number, lost control and rammed into a tricycle (Keke NAPEP), which was conveying three passengers. He said that four people were involved in the accident but that three persons died, while one other sustained injury. “The truck, due to brake failure lost control and rammed into the tricycle’ with registration number AAH774 UW. The three passengers in the Keke died. “The corpses of the victims have been deposited at the Iyenu mortuary in Ogidi, while the injured person is receiving treatment at the hospital,’’ Kumapaiyi said. BENUE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY CLERK IN DETENTION OVER N220M FRAUD.#PRESS RELEASE.

      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is investigating Mr. Torese Agena, Clerk of the Benue State House of Assembly for alleged case of fraud, stealing and misappropriation of public funds to the tune of over N220,000,000 (Two Hundred and Twenty Million Naira). The Clerk is currently in detention on a valid remand warrant obtained from the Federal High Court, Makurdi. He will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.       The Director General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola has declared zero tolerance for safety infractions in any part of the State; this he said during a safety awareness campaign tagged: "Keep Safe, Stay Alive" held on Lagos Island. The Commission took to some streets on Lagos Island to sensitize commuters and residents in pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa, and lgbo languages,at Tafawa Balewa Sq uare, CMS, Tinubu, Nnamdi Azikwe and Tom-Jones residents on the need to be safety conscious. Mojola who led the campaign harped on domestic, environmental and market place safety, attribute the storage of flammable materials in shops as one of the major causes of fire outbreaks in market places leading to loss of lives and property.       The enforcement campaign of the Special Committee on Clean Up of Ikoyi and Victoria Island yesterday, embarked on a late night operation and impounded 29 indiscriminately parked vehicles. The operation which lasted till the wee hours of Sunday morning affected the stretch of Adetokunboh Ademola street, Olosa street, Oko Awo and Oyin Jolayemi streets. All the vehicles including those that were parked at prohibited places including walkways and setbacks and the frontage of EKO Hotels and Towers were towed away by officials of LASTMA. Some of the drivers and owners of the vehicles who attempted drive away some of the vehicles while being towed were arrested by officers of the Task Force but later released on bail.        The former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has said he has nothing but pity for those celebrating the verdict of the Supreme Court that sacked him as governor of the state. Ihedioha stated that this is because the judgment is more about the country’s democracy than himself, especially as it is obvious that both the judiciary and the electoral system are on trial. The former governor stated this on Saturday in Abuja when members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) paid him a solidarity visit. The Supreme Court had last Tuesday sacked Ihedioha as Imo State Governor and ordered the swearing-in of Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of the state. He was said to have been released and dumped along Kaduna-Abuja highways Saturday night where he was said to have been given helping hands by Good Samaritans and taken to the school authority. One of the catholic priests in Kaduna city while telling the congregation after the homily on Sunday to pray for the safety and freedom of the embattled students, announced that, “We are happy to hear that one of the Seminarians has been released. He was dumped along Kaduna-Abuja highways, and occasionally, he was falling into coma. We pray that God will touch the hearts of the Kidnappers and release the remaining three.      The NSCDC has arrested one Omowunmi Micheal, the ringleader of a human trafficking syndicate who allegedly specializes in selling young girls out for prostitution has been arrested. The 30-year-old suspect, was arrested at her Iyana-Ipaja home by operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Lagos State command. The suspect revealed that she usually makes the sum of N18,600 per victim, anytime she trafficks Nigerian ladies for prostitution to African countries, most especially Mali. It was learnt that her arrest was sequel to a disagreement between the victims and the gang leader over how much to be paid by each of the victims. The suspect had demanded for an upfront payment of N1 million by each of the victims before she would hand them over to the main dealer, who is based in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
