 The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has arrested 10 suspects for various crimes ranging from r@pe, illegal abortion to financial fraud.   Briefing newsmen at the Agodi headquarters of the command on Friday, August 30, 2024, the state commandant, Augustine Padonu, said one Aminu Victor, 19, from Adamawa State, was arrested for allegedly r@ping his boss’s 9-year-old daughter.      In a separate case, three suspects were arrested for gang r@ping a 16-year-old girl.      The suspects, Qayum Babatunde, 18, from Ibadan, Azim Gbadamosi, 19, from Ibadan, Oranyan area, and Mutiu Olaniyi, 43, from Ibadan, Oranyan area (commercial driver).      A 23-year-old unlicensed nurse, Moshood Oyindamola, from Ibadan, Oranyan area, who performed the abortion on the victim, was also arrested.      The Command’s Tracking Unit also arrested several suspects involved in various financial fraud schemes.      Bakare Jide Damilare, 42, from Idowa, Odogbodu LGA, Ogun State, re

 FG Commences Construction of 500 Housing Units in Kano The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has begun the construction of 500 housing units in Kano State, named Renewed Hope Estate, located at Lambu Village in Tofa Local Government Area. The project will comprise blocks of 2-bedroom semi-detached, 1-bedroom semi-detached, and 3-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.  The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, visited the site to assess the progress of the project. Dangiwa expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work, urging the contractor to step up efforts or risk losing the job. "We are not happy with the level of work being carried out here.  Gov Bala Mohammed Appoints Haruna Yunusa Danyaya as 16th Emir of Ningi Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has appointed Alhaji Haruna Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya  as 16th  Emir of Ningi. The appointment letter was conveyed by the secretary to the state government Barrister Ibrahim Kashim who led a delegation to Ningi Emir's Palace. The development came eight days after the death of his father Alhaji Yunusa Muhammadu Danyaya who died at a hospital in Kano during a protracted illness. He congratulated the new Emir for the appointment and urged him to discharge his responsibilities in the best interest of his subjects. Police Parade Pastor, Wife, Son, Three Others Over Killing Of Kwara Student Kwara State Police Command has arrested six individuals in connection with the murder of Ogungbenro Blessing, a student at the College of Health and Technology in Offa. Among the suspects are Prophet Adebayo Adeniyi, commonly known as Prophet Ogunse, and his wife, parents of the primary suspect, Adebayo Joshua Happiness. Police Commissioner Victor Olaiya confirmed the arrests on Friday, stating that Happiness had lured Awesu Mojisola, a 21-year-old student, to a fake "sign-out" party at Whitefield Hotel in Ilorin, promising her N15,000.  SERAP Sues Akpabio, Abbas For ‘Fixing Running Costs’ Of Lawmakers The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sued the leadership of the National Assembly members for fixing what it described as the running cost of lawmakers. Joined in the suit were the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas. The group claimed the duo failed to end “the unlawful practice by the National Assembly of fixing its allowances and running costs, and the failure to account for the monthly running costs paid to members.” Disclosing this in a statement on Friday, SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, said the suit was filed last Friday at the Federal High Court, Abuja.  Removal of VAT, import duties on medical supplies changed nothing – Shehu Sani Former lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has suggested that the removal of the customs duties on imported drugs has not reflected in the prices of medical supplies. Sani said even with the policy, there has not been a drop in prices of drugs at the pharmaceutical shops despite President Bola Tinubu signing an executive order to suspend import duties. “The removal of the customs duties on imported drugs has not resulted to a drop in prices of drugs at the pharmaceutical shops,” the ex-lawmaker posted on X on Sunday.  British Home Office To Scrap Biometric Residence Card For Nigerians Nigerians living in the UK will no longer receive biometric residence cards (BRCs) or biometric residence permits (BRP) as from December 31, 2024 as the Home office is replacing them with a new online eVisa system. According to the Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK), part of the UK government’s programme to replace all physical migration documents with digital versions, the eVisa, has been aggressively promoted throughout 2024 and by the end of the year, such physical documents will replace the current hard copy visa regime altogether.  CANUK noted that it means Nigerians who have BRCs and BRPs will no longer need them as they will now get a digital version, “which saves them from having to carry any physical documentation around”. eVisa is an online record of your immigration status and the conditions of your permission to enter or stay in the UK.  Israel Recovers Bodies Of Six Hostages Held By Hamas, Including American Citizen Israel Defense Forces recovered the bodies of six Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, including one American citizen, Israeli officials said. In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the bodies were located on Saturday in an underground tunnel in the Rafah area. The IDF named the hostages as Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi and Master Sgt Ori Danino. After the operation, there are 101 hostages remaining in Gaza.
