OVER 25 MILLION PHONES STOLEN IN ONE YEAR- FG. (PHOTO).

 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. The family of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has said that his medical team has arrived in Abuja. Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu who disclosed this to Vanguard, said the team came for the emergency ear surgery recommended by the Department of State Services, DSS, medical unit. He said that the team was awaiting permission from the DSS to access the IPOB Leader to properly examine him . The medical unit of the secret police had about penultimate week, recommended urgent ear surgery for Kanu. Kanu has remained in solitary confinement at the Abuja headquarters of the DSS since his “abduction in Kenya” and subsequent extraordinary rendition to Nigeria in June 2021. Despite several court judgements as well as the United Nations Opinion that Kanu be unconditionally released and compensated, the Federal Government is yet to release him. I Can’t Drive Car Despite Driving Trucks – 22-Year-Old Female Truck Driver Ademola Omolade, a 22-year-old truck driver from Ogbomosho, Oyo State, born in Osun State, has said that she cannot drive a car despite driving trucks. Stating how she began to drive trucks, the young lady noted that her parents started pestering her to learn a trade after her secondary school education. According to her, they wanted her to learn tailoring or hairdressing, but she had no interest in any of those. At the time, she was living with her aunt in Lagos State, whose husband was a truck driver. So when her uncle was given two trucks to manage, he asked her if she could be managing the trucks for him and she agreed. During her course of managing the trucks for her uncle, she developed an interest in driving trucks and that was how she started her journey to becoming a truck driver.

ICPC arraigns Man over Alleged Employment Scam The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned one Umar Abubakar, for offences bordering on alleged forgery and employment scam. Abubakar was docked before Honourable Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman of Adamawa State High Court 1, sitting in Yola, the Adamawa State capital. The Commission in a Charge No: HC/ADSY/127C/2022, accused the defendant of obtaining by false pretense the sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000) from an unsuspecting job seeker with the promise that he was going to help his victim secure an employment with ICPC.

OYO SUSPENDS SAKI WEST LG BOSS OVER MISAPPROPRIATION OF N63M  Oyo State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Saki West Local Government, Sharafadeen Omirinde, over allegations of misappropriation of funds. The suspension came after a petition was brought to the house by members of the local government legislature and signed by over two-third of the Councilors in Saki West LG.  Omirinde was accused of illegally diverting the sum of 63 million naira belonging to the Local Government into a private purse, religious bigotry, anti-party activities among others. The House declared Omirinde suspended on Tuesday during its plenary sitting.  The House also directed the vice chairman of the local government to take over while Omirinde steps aside to allow for proper investigation by concerned committee of the house.

To this effect, the company is is winding down crude oil swap contracts with traders and will pay cash for petrol imports as private companies could begin importing petrol as soon as this month, Reuters reports. This means that NNPC is in the process of ending crude swap contracts with traders. Instead of exchanging crude oil for refined petroleum products, the state-oil company will now make cash payments for petrol imports. The move is part of President Bola Tinubu’s plans to deregulate the petrol market and reduce the burden on government finances, the statement said. Aliko Dangote varsity adopts CBN’s e-naira for tuition payment Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano, is to adopt the newly introduced e-naira for the payment of tuition in the higher institution. Shortly after accepting the initiative, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, assured that he will implement the policy after consultation with the state government. In its bid to raise awareness and invite more subscribers to the e-naira policy, the Central Bank of Nigeria in Kano took the mobilisation to the university. Delivering an address at the office of the Vice Chancellor, Alhaji Musa Tukur Yakasai, on Tuesday, the Kano Branch Controller of the CBN, Umar Ibrahim Biu, called on the university community to adopt the new E-wallet system in it’s payments of tuitions, salaries and other transactions.
