  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.  Police fire tear gas at Lekki toll-gate Protesters and civilians alike are reportedly fleeing the scene of the #EndSARSmemorial procession at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos. This march is in commemoration of the Lekki Massacre that happened on the 20th of October 2020 that saw casualties injured with some losing their lives while protesting the heinous activities of Members of the Special Anti Robbery squad SARS Which saw extra judicial killings, harrassment amongst other unpalatable activities.   Efforts to reach the Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, proved abortive as of the time of filing this report, as calls and and text messages sent to his line were not responded to.

Zulum orders vocational skills at 3,226 Almajiri schools Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has ordered the integration of vocational skills in over 2,775 Sangaya centres widely known in the northern part of Nigeria as Almajiri schools and 451 Islamiyya Schools across the State. Zulum gave the order on Tuesday at the Government House when he received an update on the validation and registration of Sangaya Schools in Borno State presented by the Governing Council of Arabic and Sangaya Education Board. The Governor noted that with the introduction of vocational education, numeracy and literacy skills, Borno State Government intend to streamline the informal and formal education system to qualify Sangaya schools products to get admitted into colleges and universities. Obinabo assured them of her readiness in partnering with the movie industry where plights of women and children would be thoroughly projected thereby sensitizing the world on the rights of women and children. Unknown gunmen, kidnappers flee hideouts as flood ravages Anambra The criminal gangs, popularly referred to as ‘unknown gunmen,’ wreaking havoc in Anambra State, have reportedly fled their hideouts to escape the ravaging flood in parts of the state.   Ogbaru, Ihiala, Ayamelum, Anambra East, Anambra West, Awka North and Ekwusigo council areas are the worst hit as many have been declared missing and others rendered homeless after their communities were swept away by the flood. Since the flood began to destroy communities two weeks ago, there has not been any report about the activities of the gunmen. Also, there have also not been any reports of clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers. A member of the Anambra Vigilant Services, Simon Ibeabuchi said that most of the camps used by the unknown gunmen to harbour kidnap victims had been submerged in flood. Justice John Targema has nullified the purported demotion and subsequent employment termination of Mr. Kenneth Meze from Nnamdi Azikiwe University for being wrongful, contrary to rules and regulations governing conditions of service, arbitrary, and breach of principles of fair hearing. The Court ordered the Nnamdi Azikiwe University and its Governing Council to immediately reinstate Mr. Kenneth Meze to his employment and position with payment of salary, allowances, and other entitlements from November 2010 at N124,539.08 (One Hundred and Twenty Four Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty-Nine Naira Eight Kobo) per month till date. EFCC Arrests Three Internet Fraud Suspects in Abuja Operatives of the Abuja Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, arrested three suspected internet fraudsters. The suspects: Abdulwaris Bayo Awwal, Subar Oluwaseun and Andrew Paul were picked up from their hideouts at APDC Estate, Kubwa. Items recovered from them include two laptops, five phones of different brands and one iWatch.

Fake EFCC Operative Arrested for Defrauding Belgian €45,000 Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested a 29-year old Ume Ifechukwu Clinton for impersonation, computer related fraud, obtaining by false pretence and money laundering. Clinton was arrested on October 18, 2022 at No 46 Atoke Gbadebo Street, Isheri, Lagos, by operatives of the EFCC, following a news story published by an online portal: foundation for investigative journalism narrating how Clinton defrauded Axelle Mahieu, an educator working as a caregiver in Brussels, Belgium. The victim was surfing through her Facebook page in November 2021, when she saw that someone had sent her a message. The message was from Ume Ifechukwu Clinton, who introduced himself as “a friend of a friend”. As they continued chatting in the following days, Clinton told Mahieu that he was an official of the EFCC, with a fake Identity Card and Nigerian Passport as proofs. EFCC Arraigns Ex-Lagos Attorney-General,  Shasore for Alleged $100,000 Fraud The Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC, on Thursday, October 20, 2022, arraigned a former Attorney-General  of Lagos State, Olasupo Shasore, SAN on a four-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of $100, 000(One Hundred Thousand Dollars) before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos. Olasupo Shasore, SAN, on or about the 18th day of November, 2014 in Lagos, allegedly induced one Olufolakemi Adelore to commit an offence to wit; accepting cash payment of the sum of US100, 000.00 (One Hundred Thousand United States Dollars) without going through a financial institution, which sum exceeded the amount authorized by Law. The offence is contrary to Section 78(c) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended) and punishable under section 16(6) of the same Act. He pleaded “not guilty” to the charges. ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT RESCUES  SIBLINGS FROM SEXUALLY ABUSIVE FATHER, ARRESTS CULPRIT.  By Chidinma Ikeanyionwu Anambra State government through the office of the Commissioner for women and social welfare in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps has rescued two children who are siblings, aged 5 years and 3 years respectively from their father who abuses them sexually. The rescue was carried out on Wednesday 19th October after a whistle blower reported the incident to the ministry. The Commissioner for women and social welfare through her Sexual and Gender Based Violence Response team quickly incidented the NSCDC and investigations began. In the cause of the investigation, the children were rescued by the intelligence Unit of NSCDC and the culprit arrested forthwith.  The culprit Mr Uchenna Nwobi, who is resident in Abagana and the father of the victims has been detained for child molestation and abuse and would be charged to court.  Meanwhile it was gathere
