 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Abiodun Mourns Loss of Former Finance Minister Soleye, Says He Was a Statesman Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun on Wednesday described the passing of former Finance Minister, Dr. Onaolapo Soleye as a great loss to Ogun State and Nigeria at large. Dr. Soneye was a former minister of finance between 1984-1985 during the military regime of General Muhammadu Buhari. He served for twenty (20) months as Minister of Finance. At a time, he also served as Commissioner for Finance and Industry in Ogun State.  His death was announced in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Wednesday by his family. 25-year-old Nigerian school teacher shot and killed in Atlanta. A 25-year-old Nigerian man, Jason Ogbomoh, was shot and killed in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, USA.  Jason was shot several times by a yet to be identified shooter on Sunday, November 12, 2023.  His father, Chief Patrick Ogbomoh, is the president of Agbor-USA, a socio-cultural group and apex body for Agbor indigenes residing in the United States of America.  Atlanta police said at 3:04 a.m. on Sunday, officers received reports of a person shot on Peachtree Street Southwest.  When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot multiple times. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Jason Ogbomoh.  Nigerian rapper, Oladips is dead A Nigerian pop star, Oladipupo Olabode Oladimenji, more popular as Oladips, has died. According to a statement posted on his Instagram page, he passed away at exactly 10:14 pm on Tuesday night. In the late hours of yesterday, videos made the rounds on social media of the Lalakukulala crooner seeming to have collapsed as his friends surrounded him. Before the video started to circulate, Oladips had taken to his Instagram stories to cry out for help. In the post, he mentioned one of his friends, @onlyonelifetime, and asked where he was. The rapper complained about how he had tried to reach the friend on the phone several times and how they knew he didn’t like to be left alone in the house, especially with his condition. He made the observation when the Minister of State for Steel Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, paid a familiarisation visit to the agency on Tuesday. According to him, to have a sustainable supply to steel industries across the country, there is a need for more investment in the mining of iron ore.  NLC submits 6 fresh demands to call off strike The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for the arrest and prosecution of one Mr Chinasa Nwaneri, SA on Special Duties to Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State. According to the NLC, Mr Nwaneri led the “deadly gang of thugs” who assaulted NLC President, Joe Ajaero in Imo. This is part of six (6) fresh demands submitted by the Union to call off the ongoing industrial strike action. Female student brutally flógged by school resident pastor for being late to Sunday church service A resident pastor and educator at St Peter's Combined Christian School in Mohlaletsi village in Sekhukhune District, Limpopo, South Africa, has been suspended for allegedly assaulting a female student.     The resident pastor, identified as Diketso Matibidi, allegedly flogged the Grade 12 learner for being late to the Sunday church service on the 12th of November, 2023.  According to reports, Diketso called out the student in front of the entire congregation and then allegedly proceeded to beat her with a sjambok, a type of whip commonly used in South Africa.   The student's parents have expressed outrage over the incident, stating that their child is now traumatized and unable to focus on her studies.  They have also criticized the school's lack of response to the matter, saying that it has taken no disciplinary action against Diketso.    The school initially denied that the i

In a state broadcast on Tuesday, the governor said the neglected education system in Zamfara affects all levels, from primary to tertiary institutions, with poor learning environments and personnel. Old naira notes remain legal tender indefinitely – CBN Central Bank of Nigeria, on Tuesday, extended the validity of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes indefinitely. CBN Director, Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin in a statement titled, “CBN To Allow Old Design Naira Banknotes As Legal Tender, Ad Infinitum”, said the decision is in line with international best practices and to forestall a repeat of earlier experiences implementing the policy. The apex bank introduced the redesigned N200, N500 and N1.000 denominations in October 2022 and certain deadlines were set for the old design of these denominations to cease as legal tenders.
