 FRC Accuses JAMB of Failing to Remit ₦3.6 Billion in Operating Surplus The House of Representatives has directed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to remit ₦3.602 billion to the Federal Government’s Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF). The decision was made during an investigative hearing held by the Public Accounts Committee in Abuja, following allegations by the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) regarding unremitted operating surplus. Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Rep. Bamidele Salam, emphasized that the remittance was a legal obligation and not subject to personal interpretation. He clarified that JAMB’s argument regarding the difference between 25% and 50% remittance rates had no bearing on the case. The Committee ordered JAMB to make the payment within 30 days and provide evidence of the remittance to the FRC.  Gunmen reportedly kill seven in Benue community Gunmen on Tuesday morning killed seven persons in Naka town, headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area in Benue State.  Naka town is located on Makurdi- Naka- Adoka – Ankpa trunk A federal highway. The inhabitants are predominantly peasant farmers who have been suffering herdsmen attacks for over 16 years.  Ex-boyfriend who ‘set Uganda’s Cheptegei on fire’ dies from burns Dickson Ndiema, the man accused of fatally burning Rebecca Cheptegei, the Ugandan athlete, is dead.  According to local authorities, Ndiema, an ex-boyfriend of Cheptegei, died on Monday from burns sustained during the attack on his former partner. The ex-boyfriend was accused of dousing Cheptegei in petrol and setting her ablaze while she was returning to her house from church in western Trans Nzoia County, Nairobi, on September 1. The 33-year-old athlete suffered burns on 80 percent of her body and was being treated at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret City, where she died on September 5.  Enugu cracks down on sale of dead animals The Enugu State Government has issued a strong warning to butchers and poultry farmers to stop selling animals and chickens that died from unknown causes. A joint statement on Tuesday by the Commissioners for Health and Agriculture, Prof Ikechukwu Obi and Mr Patrick Ubru threatened sanctions against those engaging in the unhealthy practice. The warning followed a tip-off from the public that animals that died from flu and other diseases were being sold in meat markets. According to the statement, the government has activated its public health, veterinary, and disease surveillance departments to investigate the information.  Court Jails Internet Fraudster in Enugu Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court, sitting in Independence Layout, Enugu has convicted and jailed one Okwudili Joseph for fraud. He was prosecuted on one-count-charge bordering on impersonation and cybercrime by the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
