Rescues 13 Children From Traffickers, Arrests Suspects By OCHA Brigade Media  13 children have been rescued from suspected child traffickers in Otolo Nnewi by a joint taskforce of Operation Clean And Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade and Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs. The joint taskforce also confiscated fake documents that aided the trafficking.  The children were found malnourished and have been denied education.  Report say that the trafficker adopts and sold children to people from different parts of the country.  It Is Sad We Relegate Our Local Languages With Our Own Hands - Odumeje Because of my limited proficiency in English, some people label me as illiterate. It is disheartening that Yoruba, Hausa, and Igbo speakers, who have their own languages, consider someone illiterate simply because he cannot speak English. From my perspective, there are no educated person in Nigeria. How can you claim to be educated when you lack basic necessities such as clean water, well-maintained roads, and reliable electricity?  In countries with educated populations, they have the ability to solve their own problems. However, here in Nigeria, being able to speak English fluently and possessing a certificate obtained through monetary means does not equate to true education. Europeans do not possess vast oil reserves like we do, yet their educated citizens are able to manufacture electric cars. This comes just days after his release following a forceful arrest over a debt related to a G-Wagon purchase.  Court Jails Graphic Artist Six Months for Impersonation in Lagos Justice I.O. Ijelu of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, has sentenced one Roland Esin Mana, a Graphic Artist, to six months imprisonment for impersonation. He was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on possession of documents containing false pretences. The count reads: “ That you, Roland Esin Mana, on or about the 22nd September, 2023 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, had in your possession documents containing false pretences, wherein you represented yourself as Linh Nguyen, an Asian lady, to defraud Dang Xuan, whom you met on Facebook, which representation you knew to be false.” He pleaded “guilty” to the charge when it was read to him. O.  Residents Excited As Makinde Opens Reconstructed Olodo Bridge For Motorists Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has opened up right hand side of the newly reconstructed Olodo bridge for residents and motorists. The Commissioner for Works, Professor Daud Sangodoyin, who represented the governor on Saturday, May 18, declared the bridge open for motorists. Recall that the Olodo bridge was washed away in 2023 after a heavy rainfall leaving the road impassable for both residents and motorists. The governor however, created a tentative road for residents of the area while the reconstruction of the bridge commenced in last year.  FG, Labour To Reconvene Next Week Over Minimum Wage Negotiation The Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage will reconvene on Tuesday, May 23 to further negotiate a reasonable new minimum wage for workers, after the organised labour walked out of the negotiation on May 15. An invitation letter sent to the labour leaders by the chairman of the committee, Bukar Goni, states that the other members of the committee have agreed to shift grounds from the N48,000 proposal which was made on Wednesday. The letter appealed to the labour leaders to speak to their members and attend the reconvened meeting next Tuesday. The organised labour comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have proposed a new minimum wage of N615,000, which is way higher than the N48,000 proposal by the government. The Army Headquarters Garrison on Friday 17 May 2024 emerged the overall winner of the Nigerian Army Inter Formation Mini Athletics Championship 2024, with a total of 10 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze.  The week-long Championship which commenced on 14 May 2024 with 70 participants each from Army Headquarters Garrison and all the Divisions of the Nigerian Army less 7 Division that could not attend due to operational exigencies was declared open by the representative of the Chief of Army Staff(COAS) and Commander Infantry Corps Maj Gen OO Oluyede.  The athletes competed in various track and field events including Discus, Shot Put, Hammer, Javelin, Long Jump, High Jump and Triple jump among others.  Minister of Information Congratulates Newly Elected APRA Executives  The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has felicitated the newly elected Executive Council of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), elected at the 35th APRA Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire from May 13- 18, 2024.
