      STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday put a call to former President Goodluck Jonathan to sympathize with him following an attack by gunmen on his Otuoke, Bayelsa State country residence. In the telephone conversation, President Buhari expressed sadness over the “tragic and unfortunate attack,” during which a gallant soldier lost his life. While commending the soldiers on guard for bravely repelling the attack, the President condoled with family members as well as officers and men of the Nigerian Army over the loss of one of the guards. President Buhari assured that the protection of the life of the former leader and all citizens of the country will continue to be the major preoccupation of his administration.        December 24, 2019 Press Statement Apprehend Attackers of Jonathan’s Home Now, PDP Charges FG The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) charges the Federal Government to immediately track down and apprehend the gunmen that violently attacked the home of former President Goodluck Jonathan, in Otuoke, Bayelsa State. The party describes the attack on the home of the former President as extremely disturbing and demanded for an extensive investigation into the incident. Our party insists that the gun attack is a direct threat on the life and safety of the former President and members of his family and as such the assailants must be tracked down. The party also commiserates with the families of the security personnel killed in the attack and urges Security agencies to go after the assailants as well as rescue those reportedly abducted during the attack.        Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday explained why gunmen attacked his country home in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. A soldier on guard duty at the courtyard and another was injured during the daring attack. Multiple sources said about three of the gunmen were killed by the soldiers, who foiled their attempt to break into the house. In a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan said the attackers came to steal a gunboat stationed 100 meters away from the residence.       I felicitate with our Christian brothers and sisters in particular, and all Nigerians in general, on the joyous occasion of Christmas of the year 2019. As Christendom commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, I enjoin all Nigerians to imbibe and demonstrate the essence of the season of love; goodwill among all the ethnic groups in the country; giving and sharing; strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and good neighbourliness; and focusing on all that bind us together as one united country. I, therefore, urge our compatriots to shun all actions which negate the spirit of the season. However, celebrating the spirit and virtues of Christmas need not be a one-day affair, but rather, ought to continue into the New Year.
