  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. CIVIL DEFENCE UNVEILS ADDITIONAL UNIFORM FOR SMARTER SERVICE DELIVERY     Determined to improve the effeciency of the Corps, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, unveiled an additional uniform for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the Ministry of Interior in Abuja. The new addition to the array of uniforms of NSCDC is made up of distinct Navy blue trouser with a white top and a symbolic red collar.  According to the Minister, the additional uniform is to add value to the Corps and promote effective service delivery and general efficiency in it's assigned mandates. "We are here today to unveil additional uniform to the set of uniforms already in use in NSCDC which the officers will wear only on Tuesday. The specificity of this has been displayed by the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi who has come out in the beautiful uniform we are commissioning today" Minister said. GOVERNOR SOLUDO CELEBRATE HOLY PALM SUNDAY WITH CATHOLIC FAITHFUL  The governor of Anambra State; Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR today celebrates the Palm Sunday with Catholic faithful in St. Patrick Cathedral Awka. The Holy Mass started with procession with palm fronds; dancing and glorying the name of the Lord in memory of the biblical triumphant entry of our Lord Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.  The Holy Mass is celebrated by Bishop Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, the Bishop of Awka diocese. Bandits Gun Down Miyyetti Allah Chairman In Abuja Bandits have killed Adamu Aliyu, chairman of the Miyyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja. Aliyu was said to have been killed alongside four others near Daku village in Dobi ward of the council on Thursday. Group secretary, Usman said the bandits, who suddenly emerged from the bush and, opened fire on a truck that was conveying the victims. “They were retuning from Izom market in Niger state where they went to sell cows, until just one kilometer to Daku village when the bandits suddenly emerged from the bush and opened fire on the truck, killing the MACBAN chairman and four others,” he said.

I’ll Decide On 2023 Presidency After Easter – Ngige The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, has said he is still consulting on whether or not he will join the presidential race. He added that he would make public his decision after Easter. Approaching 70years of Minister Ngige, a member of the All Progressives Congress, in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja, said, “I’m still consulting and will make the decision arising from it public after Lent which is Easter period.” Pressure groups and prominent voices in the country have called on the two major political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party and the APC, to micro-zone the 2023 presidency to the South-East.

NDLEA intercepts 101 parcels of Cocaine in Children duvets at Lagos airport . Seizes drugged Milo beverage in Edo; skunk in detergent containers at Enugu airport No less than 101 parcels of Cocaine concealed in eight children duvets have been intercepted by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, Lagos.  The illicit drug was brought into the country by a 52-year-old Brazilian returnee, Akudirinwa Hilary Uchenna who hails from Oru East Local Government area of Imo state. He was arrested on Saturday 9th April at the D-Arrival Hall of the Lagos airport upon his return from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Doha aboard Qatar Airline flight, while the 101 parcels of the class A drug with a gross weight of 13.2 kilogram were recovered from his only check-in bag. CUSTOMS INTERCEPTED 1,300 JERRY CANS OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS WITH A DUTY PAID VALUE OF N12,543,960.(PHOTO).

The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Saturday said it intercepted  1,300 jerry cans of petroleum products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N12,543,960. The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Bello Mohammed Jibo, said the arrest was made on Wednesday, 6 April 2022. He said  the 1,300 jerry cans of petroleum products (30 litres each) is equivalent to 39,000 litres. “This arrest is coming at a time when the Government is spending huge resources to subside the products to ameliorate the plight of its citizens, but these unscrupulous and unpatriotic elements are bent on sabotaging the efforts of the government. It is on this premise that the Officers and Men of the Command, redoubled their efforts with renewed vigour in the fight against smuggling of the petroleum product.” He explained.
