The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.   Missing ex-president of ASUU, Dipo Fasina found in Turkey  A former president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), who was reported missing earlier on Sunday, has been found. Mr. Dipo Fasina, popularly known as ‘Jingo’ was declared missing on Saturday, July 1, in an incident confirmed by the incumbent President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke. The 76-year-old Nigerian scholar and activist was travelling to Algeria at the invitation of the Algerian government when he was said to have missed his connecting flight from Istanbul, Turkey. Delta youth group flogs and fines girls for indecent dressing A group of youths in Ubeji community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, under the aegis of Ubeji Youth and Employment Development Organisation, has gone tough against girls involved in indecent dressing. According to our source, members of the youth group had started clamping down on suspected offenders by subjecting them to strokes of the cane or in the alternative imposed fines on them. It was gathered that the enforcement of the exercise tagged ‘War Against Indecent Dressing’ among young ladies in the community, which commenced since Monday, July 3, 2023, had caused panic among females in the locality. Beyonce's mom, Tina Knowles has become a victim of burglary after her Los Angeles-area home was reportedly broken into recently. According to TMZ, the 69-year-old entrepreneur lost $1 million in cash and jewelry after thieves took off with a safe. Tina was made aware of the missing items on Wednesday morning after someone she knows stopped by the estate. Sources told the outlet that the mother-of-two was out of town when the break-in occurred. It's unknown how the trespassers were able to enter the house and take off with the vault. Law enforcement is investigating the burglary, searching for video footage and talking to neighbors for information. It comes after this past spring Knowles called the police in April after hearing strange noises at the front of her property. Killings: Mutfwang re-imposes 24-hour curfew in Plateau LG Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Mangu Local Government Area, following recent attacks that led to loss of lives and properties. The Governor, in consultation with the State Security Council, imposed a curfew on the entire Local Government Area to restore law and order. A statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere said, “Consequently, movements within the Local Government Area have been banned until further notice except for security personnel and persons on essential duties. “Security agencies have therefore been directed to ensure total enforcement of the curfew. Meanwhile, the governor has assured the people that the government is working round-the-clock to restore peace and security in the State.”

Yari was not invited for allegedly ignoring Tinubu’s phone calls, says DSS The Department of State Services (DSS) says Abdulaziz Yari, senator representing Zamfara west, was not invited over alleged refusal to respond to telephone calls from President Bola Tinubu. Recently, a report alleged that Yari was arrested and detained by the DSS over the claim that he shunned Tinubu’s telephone calls in June. The report also claimed that the telephone call was initiated by the president to pressure the former Zamfara governor to drop his ambition to become the senate president. Rescue ship save 47 migrants from Eritrea, Ethiopia and Sudan in Libya Mediterranean Sea. The migrant rescue ship Ocean Viking saved 46 people in distress off the coast of Libya on Friday who were trying to reach Europe in a fibreglass boat, the NGO said on Twitter. The survivors were mostly from Eritrea, Ethiopia and Sudan. The central Mediterranean is the most dangerous migration route in the world, since the beginning of 2023, 1,728 migrants have disappeared there, says the International Organisation for Migration.

Fire razes radio station in Osun, one injured A member of staff of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Gold FM, Ilesa, Osun State, whose name could not be immediately ascertained, has been hospitalised after sustaining an injury in a fire that razed part of the station on Sunday. It was not immediately clear what caused the incident, but sources said loud noise coming from the transmission hall of the station, preceded the inferno which reportedly destroyed equipment. The injured staff, who was said to be among workers that passed the night on the premises, it was learnt, sustained burns and was rushed to a private hospital in Ilesha for treatment. A source close to the station, who preferred anonymity, during an interview with The PUNCH, said residents responding to distress calls by the staff were joined by staff to put off the fire.

18 bus passengers die in Lagos accident Tragedy struck on Sunday morning after an 18-seater bus had a head-on collision with a truck in the Agemowo area along Lagos-Badagry Expressway. It is gathered that the incident happened around 8 am. All the passengers and the driver of the bus reportedly died. A motor boy in the truck also lost his life in the accident. It was learnt that the driver of the commercial bus which left the Yaba area of the state and heading to Benin Republic tried to overtake a vehicle when he lost control and collided with the oncoming truck. The Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Management Authority, Taofiq Adebayo, confirmed the incident. Details later…
