  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.       The Honourable Minister of Interior, Lt General (Rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau has announced plans to put an end to the importation of textile materials for producing uniforms by all Services under the Ministry of Interior. General Dambazau made the disclosure when the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, His Excellency, Governor Kashim Shettima, led the management team of the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) to the Ministry of Interior to seek the Ministry’s support for the revitalization of its textile industry. The meeting which also had in attendance, the Minister for Agriculture, Dr Audu Ogbe, The CG Custom, Col Hameed Ali Rtd, and Controller Generals of Immigration, Prisons, Federal Fire Service as well as the representatives of the Inspector General of Police and CG Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, applauded the plans to domesticate the production of uniform materials and other accoutrements used by security Services in Nigeria.        With barely one year to the end of his administration, Governor Ibikunle Amosun has reassured residents of Ogun State of his resolve to complete all ongoing projects across the state. He gave the assurance when he led his team to inspect the ongoing reconstruction of the Sagamu-Ogijo 22 km road into a six-laner. Also inspected on Tuesday, was the Ijebu-Igbo flyover, which is over 90 percent completed and its link road. Other road projects , which are scheduled to receive government attention, include, the Ilishan-Ago Iwoye road, Ikangba-Ilese-Itele road, all in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun East Senatorial District. In Ogun West, the Governor said Ilogbo road and Ilaro-Owode road, with an underpass, will be completed in record time. Also, according to him, Igbesa and Atan-Agbara road will be a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.More photos below.

BRITAIN WILL BUILD 112-BED WING AT KIRIKIRI PRISON TO TRANSFER NIGERIAN PRISONERS THERE.

      Britain will build a new 112-bed wing at Kirikiri Prison in Lagos so that it can transfer Nigerian prisoners there, foreign secretary, Boris Johnson announced in London today. In a written statement to parliament, Johnson said tenders had been placed and a supplier identified to conduct the building work at Kirikiri. He did not name the supplier. The project will be funded from Britain’s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund, which has an annual budget of more than 1 billion pounds and aims to commission projects that can help prevent conflicts and stabilise countries or regions. The new 112-bed wing, which will cost 700,000 pounds ($973,000) and be compliant with United Nations standards, will make it easier for Britain to comply with a prisoner transfer agreement it signed with Nigeria in 2014.         The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Gombe Zonal office today, March 8, 2018, secured the conviction of one Muhammad Maikudi Yusuf before Justice Abubakar Jauro of the Gombe State High Court on one count charge bordering on cheating contrary to Section 320 of the Penal Code. Maikudi, a former Amir of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, FCE, Gombe branch, between 2014 to 2016 as well as former Amir of  Gombe Area Unit of the same society was investigated by the EFCC following a petition by one Bilyaminu Abdullahi, Secretary of the society.The petitioner had alleged that sometimes in 2015, the accused collected the sum of N840,000.00 from the society's account through one Muhammed Bello who was then the Treasurer and signed an undertaking to refund the money after some few weeks; but failed after several promises. He was first arraigned on 5th February, 2018 where he pleaded not guilty to the charge read against him.
