 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Arrested Ogun robber says 5 guns, 110 bullets supplied by police Inspector A man arrested for alleged armed robbery in Ogun State has named one Inspector Ola as his supplier of arms and ammunition. The 33-year-old suspect, Akeem Owonikoko, was arrested by officers of the Ogun State Police Command along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode-Benin expressway on Sunday. Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, told newsmen in a statement that the suspect was arrested after a 24-hour operation led by the Ijebu-Ode Area Commander, ACP Omosanyi Adeniyi. According to Odutola, the suspect, during interrogation, confessed and fingered the Inspector of Police, whom he simply identified as Ola, as the person who procured the guns they used to operate. ABIA GOVT BANS USE OF MOTORCYCLES (OKADA) Abia State Government has banned the use of motorcycles otherwise known as ‘Okada’ in Umuahia the state capital; and Aba the commercial nerve centre. This was contained in a press statement released Sunday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Alex Otti, Mr Kazie Uko. Although no reasons were given for the ban, the statement said the ban would become effective from Monday, August 14. The statement read in part:”Effective Monday, August 14, 2023, any motorcycle seen on the streets of Umuahia and Aba townships being used for such purpose will be impounded by the security agencies.” According to the statement, security agencies have been directed to arrest any individual caught violating the order, for possible prosecution. Kano Govt Revokes Licences Of All Private Schools The Kano State government has revoked certificates of all private schools operating in the state with immediate effect. This was made known by the special adviser to the State Governor on Private and Voluntary Institutions, Baba Abubakar Umar, on Saturday. During a meeting with the proprietors of the private schools in the state, Umar said all the schools were expected to collect new registration forms to fill for new certificates to be issued. He pointed out that this was part of the state government’s commitment towards sanitising the private school operations and ensuring adherence to established laws and guidelines. He charged the proprietors to pay their 10 per cent tax to the government as at when due for the progress of the sector, adding that his return to the position of managing the private schools should not lead to intimidation as he doesn’t have intention to victimise anyone. El-Rufai Absent As His Son Marries Second Wife  Former Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State was conspicuously absent when Bello, his eldest son, got married to his second wife, Aisha Habibu Shuaibu, on Saturday. Daily Trust had reported how El-Rufai jetted out of the country after he pulled out of the ministerial race. The senate had last week confirmed 45 out of the 48 ministerial nominees of President Bola Tinubu. But El-Rufai and two other nominees – Stella Okotete (Delta) and Danladi Abubakar (Taraba) – were not confirmed as the senate said they were awaiting security clearance. The proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has undertaken an initiative to disseminate flyers throughout the south-eastern region, aiming to ensure that every resident is informed about the termination of the Monday sit-at-home practise in the area. IPOB initially declared the holiday for Mondays but later extended it. Supporters of Nnamdi Kanu have been enforcing the sit-at-home as an act of civil disobedience against the federal government, primarily to demand the release of their leader, who remains incarcerated. Since then, all businesses shut down on such days and every Monday as residents stay at home, mainly out of fear of attack. On July 28th, Kanu formally announced the conclusion of the weekly sit-at-home tradition that had prevailed across the region.
