 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

          The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), on Sunday said the jubilation that followed the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari was an indication that the country had no alternation to him now.               A  thanksgiving Service was on Sunday held for the patriarch of the Obaseki family and retired Supreme Court Judge, late Justice Andrews Otutu Obaseki at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Benin City, the Edo State Capital. Delivering a sermon titled: “Entering the kingdom of God through our works” the Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Benin, Rt. Revd. Peter Imasuen, taking his reading from Mathew 25: 1-34, called on the congregation to live fulfilled lives that will affect those around them positively, knowing that their works will be tried on the last day by God who is the Judge of all Judges. He called on Christians to be ambassadors of Christ, live disciplined lives and make heaven their focus, as these are the sure ways of inheriting the kingdom of God, which is the final destination for all Christians. KWARA CONFIRMS ONE CASE OF LASSA FEVER.

            The Kwara State Government has confirmed a case of Lassa Fever infection in the state. The State Commissioner for Health, Atolagbe Alege announced the discovery at press conference in his office on Friday. Alhaji Alege said out of the five samples taken to virology unit research centre at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), one was confirmed positive case of Lassa fever. The Commissioner said sample was taken from Babanla primary Health Care Centre in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State where a 10 year old boy was confirmed positive for Lassa fever. The commissioner said in Oro-Ago axis, the four samples taken tested negative. He said medical team from the State Department of Public Health is moving to Babanla immediately to monitor the situation, isolate the victim and commence contact tracing for possible treatment and quarantine where necessary.              The Lagos State Government on Sunday confirmed the death of 12 persons in the boat mishap which occurred at the weekend in Ilashe area of the State. In a statement issued by the Managing Director of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), Engr Abisola Kamson, the State Government attributed the unfortunate mishap to overloading of passengers on a Banana Boat and operation of illegal jetty. Kamson said four victims of the mishap who were rescued are already receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, while search and rescue operation was still on-going. While commiserating with the families of those that lost their loved ones, the State Government said the mishap had again brought to the fore the need for the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) to respect the recent verdict of the Court of Appeal which upheld the powers of the State Government to control its intra-inland waterways.                                                                              There was pandemonium in Awka-Etiti area of Anambra state after a businessman simply identified as Ebuka, was humiliated and disgraced after being accused of killing a 9-year old boy who in the region. According to reports, the boy was said to stolen biscuits from the accused shop in the company of his younger brother. LAGOS SHUTS ILLEGAL PLANK MARKET IN OKO-BABA TODAY.

               The Lagos State Government on Sunday ordered the immediate closure of an illegal plank market in Oko-Baba Extension by Wright Street in Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the State. The government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon. Muslim Folami, said the decision to shut down the market was based on the fact that it had become a security threat as well as a hide o ut for hoodlums who attack innocent citizens and commuters in the area. He said the State Government, under Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, was passionately and irrevocably committed to the safety of lives and property of residents in the State and would not allow any potential security threat to thrive.
