 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Man arrested for carelessly leaving his loaded dane gun that was picked up by an 13 year old and mistakenly used to k!ll 3 year old in Ogun Men of Ogun State Police Command on Friday, March 10, arrested 45-year-old Semiu Adegesin, pictured above, for his contributory negligence that led to the d€ath of a 3-year-old girl, Esther Samuel.    A statement by the spokesperson of the police command, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was arrested following a report lodged at Imasayi Divisional Headquarters that a 13-year-old boy identified as Ope Babalola shot and k!lled the deceased with a dane gun at Kukudi Village, Imasayi.    ‘’Upon the information, the DPO Imasayi division, SP Arowojeun Michael, quickly led his detectives to the scene where the deceased was met in the pool of her own blood.  Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect Semiu Adegesin loaded his dane gun, and carelessly kept it in an open place at the backyard of the house where children used to play. EFCC Presents Second Witness, Closes Case Against Two Impostors Arrested While Executing Fake Court Order In Lagos The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Friday, March 10, 2023, presented its second prosecution witness, Olufemi Olukinni, and also closed its case against the duo of Ugwu Chijioke and Ibrahim Adekunle before Justice O.O. Abike-Fadipe of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos. The defendants, who were first arraigned on October 12, 2021 following their arrest in May, 2021, are being prosecuted on an amended five-count charge bordering on impersonation, attempt to obtain property, possession of documents containing false pretence and unlawfully wearing the uniform of the EFCC.

ICPC Arraigns Ibadan Polytechnic Staff Over Forgery The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned a staff of The Polytechnic of Ibadan, Mr. Mosudi Osuolale Ashim, over alleged forgery and making false statements. Mr. Ashim was arraigned before the Hon. Justice Olalekan Owolabi of the Oyo State High Court 12, in Ibadan. The Commission had filed a 3-count charge alleging that the accused presented a Curriculum Vitae captioned “The Polytechnic, Ibadan – Academic Staff Curriculum vitae for 2018 Annual Assessment” to the Management/Faculty of Engineering of Ibadan Polytechnic during the Faculty Promotion exercises in 2015, 2016 and 2018. The charge alleged that he claimed to be a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) with Registration Number: R13988, knowing it to be false and with the intent to mislead the Polytechnic during the promotion exercise.

4 People Injured As Thugs Attack LP Campaign Convoy In Jema'a LG The Labour Party governorship campaign convoy of Hon. Jonathan Asake in Kaduna state was attacked by thugs today in Gidan Waya, Jema'a local government area. This was revealed in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr. James Swan. Four youths were injured in the process, including two boys and two girls. No vehicle was damaged, says the statement. The incident happened when the campaign convoy was passing through Gidan Waya during Friday prayers on its way to Godogodo and other towns as the campaign team tour the Local Government.  After the first three vehicles in the convoy made their way through the old tyres used to demarcate the road, thugs started throwing stones, big sticks and other harmful objects at the long convoy. It took the timely intervention of the security personnel attached to the candidate to forestall a crisis. Km

By Chidinma Ikeanyionwu A Chief Magistrate Court, the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court, sitting  in Awka, Anambra State, has sentenced one Victoria Enwerem (Anosike), aged, 42 years, to multiple jail terms. Victoria Enwerem was arraigned in Court on a-3 count charge: conspiracy to steal children; fraudulently enticing away and habouring children, and forcefully isolating the children from the lawful possession of their parents, punishable under the Criminal Code, Laws of Anambra State of Nigeria, 1991, and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition and Protection) Laws of Anambra State, 2017 respectively. The stolen children were five (5) in number and between the ages of 9 years, 7 years, 3 years, 10 years and 8 years old. Confirmed: It has been announced that the children of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will begin to use the Prince and Princess titles afforded to them by the Letters Patent of 1917. The news was revealed when it was announced that Princess Lilibet had been christened on Friday in California. Buckingham Palace has said that the Royal Website will be updated to reflect the change in due course.   Supreme Court Sacks Shekarau As Senator-elect  The Supreme Court on Friday sacked Senator Ibrahim Shekarau as the candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party and recognised Senator Rufa’i Hanga as the party’s candidate for the 2023 general election. The PUNCH reports that Shekarau was declared the winner of the 2023 Kano Central Senatorial District election under NNPP. Shekarau, a sitting senator was in the NNPP and was nominated to vie for the senatorial position under its platform. However, before the elections, he announced his defection from the NNPP and abandoned his senatorial ambition to join the Peoples Democratic Party.

INEC Rejects LP’s Request To Witness BVAS Reconfiguration The Labour Party, on Thursday, knocked the Independent National Electoral Commission, saying the electoral umpire deliberately came up with its idea of reconfiguring the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System machines after its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, sought to examine the election materials. This was as the party faulted the commission’s claim of backing up the data retrieved from the BVAS without the presence of independent witnesses and representatives of political parties. The protest is coming barely 24 hours after INEC rescheduled the planned governorship and states House of Assembly elections earlier slated for March 11 in order to reconfigure the BVAS machines. Commercial Bus Driver Crushes Motorist To Death In Meiran, Lagos A private car owner was killed on Thursday morning, March 9, when a commercial bus driver driving against traffic collided with his vehicle around Meiran area of Lagos. Report had it that a Volkswagen commercial bus driver with registration number EPE 964XX, while driving against traffic, on high speed, suddenly, collided with a private car, a Honda Civic, Lagos registration number, EPE 666 BC, killing the occupant on the spot. The Lagos State, Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, (Bravo) Anthony Ajanlekoko, who was at the spot of the accident, said it occurred around 9:30am. According to Ajanlekoko, the driver of the Honda Civic car sustained serious neck injury and died instantly in a pool of his blood. More photos below.

Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, are currently facing charges in the United Kingdom after they allegedly lured a young man from Nigeria to harvest his organ for their ailing daughter, Sonia, who is also standing trial. The lawmaker was last year arrested and had been in the custody of UK authorities after they received complaints from the young man about their alleged plans to harvest his organ. According to Daily Mail, the young man, a trader from Lagos, was to be rewarded for donating a kidney to Sonia in an £80,000 private procedure at the Royal Free Hospital in London.
