  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Kaduna Deploys 2000 Teachers In 155 Schools To Enhance Girl-Child Education The Kaduna State government has deployed 2000 teachers in 155 schools across the 23 local government areas (LGAs) of the state as part of efforts to address the constraints of girl-child education in the state. The state’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe while speaking at a training organised by the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project under the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Teachers Service Board at Kaduna State University (KASU) said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that the girl-child is given every opportunity to achieve her full potential.

Canada To Welcome 465,000 Nigerians, Others As Permanent Residents In 2023 Amid Labour Shortage The Canadian government has revealed its immigration plan to welcome half a million immigrants, including Nigerians, each year by 2025 to tackle the labour shortage. Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Sean Fraser released Canada’s 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan, which embraces immigration to help businesses find workers and attract the skills required in key sectors. According to the new release from the immigration ministry, the Canadian economy is now facing critical labour market shortages causing uncertainty for Canadian businesses and workers. The ambitious immigration plan will manage Canada’s social and economic challenges in the decades ahead. In 2021 Canada welcomed over 405,000 newcomers, the most in a single year. ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT HAS APPREHENDED 3 GANG-RAPE SUSPECTS  AND WILL BE CHARGED TO COURT AFTER INVESTIGATION. By Chidinma Ikeanyionwu Three rape suspects has been arrested and handed over to the Nigerian Police in Awka. The operation took place when National Agency Fore Prohibition of Trafficking in Person officials alongside Anambra Vigilante Group security operatives  invaded Enekwesumpu Nkpor and arrested the said suspects. The arrest was as a result of a rape complaint made by a 13 years old rape victim in Nkpor. The victim who was brought to the office of the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare was visibly in tears when narrating her ordeal.  The victim who is from Ohaozara in Ebonyi State explained that she was raped by four boys namely Sunday, Emelie, Chiedu and Nwa awọ but unfortunately Nwa awọ escaped when security operatives invaded the neighborhood. Armed Men Exchange Fire with Security Forces in Uli Uli, a town in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state and home for the first campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) experienced heavy shootout yesterday. According to an eye witness report, unidentified armed men with automatic rifle who came in a Toyota sienna vehicle and motorcycles engaged the security forces in a shootout in the university town that lasted for several hours. The issue of insecurity in Uli and Ihiala local government has become a matter of grave concern to all and sundry. The security situation in the local government area has caused massive exodus of indigenes and well-to-do individuals from the town. It has equally affected the school community as students and lecturers are now living in fear, a situation which has affected the once school environ. As at the time of filing this report, the identity of the armed men still remains a mystery and no casualty was recorded

Delta Police arrest suspected gunrunners, recovers 42 locally made guns The Command received credible intelligence about a syndicate who specializes in manufacturing locally made guns, and other arms. It was on this premise that the Commissioner of Police CP Ari Muhammed Ali, FCIA, psc+ detailed the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) to carry out intensive raids in the said area.
