 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

The Abia born surgeon, who hails from Ohuhu in Umuahia North LGA, is the son Dr Okonjo Iweala.  By this feat he has broken medical record in far away United States. Dr Uchechi Iweala, successfully performed a navigated lumbar spinal fusion using a robot, the first in the history of mankind in USA

IJORA EASTLINK/CAUSEWAY PROJECT: LASG ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC DIVERSION The Lagos State Government has announced that traffic will be diverted at Ijora from Friday 2nd September till Sunday, 4th September, 2022, following a notification from the Federal Ministry of Works on the Ijora Eastlink/Causeway project. A statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, assured the motoring public of efficient traffic management by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority along the affected routes. It explained that motorists will be diverted into the National Theatre to access Ijora and Costain as the flexible pavement linking Eko Bridge will be under refurbishment. Oladeinde encouraged the citizenry to cooperate with the Government to minimise inconveniences, adding that the ongoing projects across the State are geared towards creating and maintaining an efficient transportation system.

LAGOS/BADAGRY CARRIAGEWAY REPAIRS: LASG ANNOUNCES DIVERSION AT ALAKIJA INTERSECTION In continuation of the rehabilitation of the Lagos/Badagry Expressway, the Lagos State Government will divert traffic at Alakija Intersection for repair works from 1st September till November 2022. Announcing the development, the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, explained that alternative routes had been mapped out and will be repaired to enable seamless vehicular movement. He stated that motorists inbound Badagry could make use of the Service Lane to access the diversion points at Festac 1st gate or Agboju 2nd gate to link 2nd Avenue inwards Alakija to reach their desired destinations, advising motorists going beyond Festac Town to utilise the diversion into the main carriageway after Agboju (2nd Gate) onto the flyover bridge or exit the interchange bridge to connect to Abule Ado to continue their journey. NASARAWA SUBEB THREATENS TO REVOKE CONTRACTS FOR VIOLATION OF AGREEMENTS Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has given contractors handling construction and renovation of schools in the state one week to moblise to sites or have their contacts revoked. A statement by the board’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Gana Ahmed, on Sunday in Lafia, quoted the Director, Physical Planning, Muhammad Shuaibu Lakpa, as handing down the warning. The affected contractors, according to the statement, were those handling the contracts for UBE 2020/ 2021 intervention. The board expressed dismay over the failure of the contractors to resume at the sites long after the jobs were awarded, while giving them one week from Monday (yesterday) to do so or face the penalty.   HOUSES SUBMERGED, PROPERTIES DESTROYED AS FLOOD WREAKS HAVOC IN MAKURDI Several homes and business places have been submerged in Makurdi, Benue state capital, following days of rainfall that have left hundreds of families displaced and property worth millions of Naira destroyed. The daily torrential rain, which caused the flooding of several communities in the town, including the Ishaya Bakut axis, Achussa, Idye, Naka Road, Wadata rice mill, Angwan Jukun communities, among others, have forced helpless families out of their homes, while many were trapped in their residences and unable to vacate their flooded houses. The devastation came three weeks after the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Dr. Emmanuel Shior, appealed to residents in the town and other communities on flood prone areas to vacate such areas to safer places, following earlier warning by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, of the impending flood. Press Release   *Kano Building Collapse*   A three storey building on Beirut Road at a popular GSM market in Kano metropolis collapsed today Tuesday 30th August, 2022  around 03:05pm. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of the incident and immediately  mobilised emergency responders to the  site for  rescue operations.  NEMA Search and Rescue team from  the Agency's Kano Territorial Office were also deployed to reinforce and coordinate the rescue.  So far, as at 9:10pm this night,  eight (8) persons have been rescued and taken to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital. Sadly, one of them was confirmed death by doctors at the hospital,  six with minor injuries were treated and discharged. However, one of them that sustained major injuries with multiple fractures is still being treated  at the hospital. Search and rescue operations is still ongoing to rescue those trapped beneath the rubbles. The operations is being carried out jointly by search and rescue teams

Court Jails Two Fashion Designers, Three Others  For Internet Fraud In Ilorin Justice Ibrahim Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, Kwara State  has convicted and sentenced two fashion designers: Jatto Mujeeb, Opeyemi Bhadmus Abdulsamad, alongside three other internet fraudsters: Ipadeola Olawale, Tomiwa Kingsley and Kolawole Segun to various jail terms. They were jailed on Monday, August 29, 2022 after pleading guilty to three-count separate charges bordering on internet fraud, cheating and possession of fraudulent funds. More photos below.

ARMY FIGHTING PATROL NEUTRALIZE BANDIT IN KADUNA A fighting patrol led by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja accompanied by a team of Operational commanders and operatives have cleared bandits in Buruku, Udawa, Manini, Birnin Gwari, Doka, Maganda, Kuyello and Dogon Dawa communities in Kaduna state, while on a fighting patrol on Monday 29 August 2022. In the fire fight that ensued during the engagements, the patrol team overpowered the bandits with superior fire power neutralizing, one of them, while three others were captured alive, as some of the criminal elements escaped with gunshot wounds. The Patrol team also recovered one AK 47 rifle, 27 rounds of 7.62 mm Special ammunition and 18 Motorcycles.   Members of the public, particularly health facilities and paramedics are please urged to watch out for persons who may be seeking medical attention for gunshot wounds and please report to relevant security agencies.  ONYEMA NWACHU

COAS FLAGS OFF COMBAT ORIENTEERING COMPETITION IN CROSS RIVER STATE ...emphasised the importance of training in Combating Terrorism and Insurgency The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya has flagged off the Nigerian Army Inter Divisions Combat Company Orienteering Competition. The event was held on Tuesday 30 August 2022 at Godwin Ally Cantonment Ogoja, Cross River State. The COAS who was represented by Major General Joseph Omali reiterated the importance of training in the fight against insurgency and terrorism noting that competition will also enhance the leadership development of junior commanders. Gen Yahaya urged the participants to strive hard in order to bring out the best in the championship assuring them that efforts and preparations for the competition will translate to relative ease in conduct of operations. He commended the 82 Division in selecting Ogoja for the championship adding the terrain provides all features needed for training of this nature.

POLICE RECOVERS ONE ABANDONED VEHICLE, ONE LIVE AK47 AMMUNITION AND SOME CRIMINAL MASK _as Operatives intensify patrol and improved operational positioning to respond to distress calls in the State_ Anambra State Police Operatives on 29/8/2022 at about 3pm, while on patrol along Amaokpala-Awgbu highway recovered one abandoned black Mercedes 4matic ML 350 jeep with Reg No Abuja RBC 527 AL, one Ak47 live ammunition and some criminal mask.  Preliminary information shows that the vehicle is suspected to have been snatched by criminal elements who had an accident on their way to yet unidentified location.
