  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Three men are being charged with the kidnapping of a woman in a cult-like church in St. Louis.  Police report bizarre actions of the women inside while they were investigating.  Police were called to Mount of Olives church in St. Louis on February 21st to the report of a woman calling out for help from passer-bys. Once on scene, they located a woman whose hands were bound, she also had an obvious head wound. She told police she had been held against her will, beaten, and only given water. The victim led police to the Mount of Olives church (which is actually listed as a residence) where she pointed out her 3 captors. The men were identified as 25-year-old Mmunga Fungamali, 32-year-old Pasi Heri and 28-year-old Grace Kipendo. Police gained entry and discovered a room with water and a bucket for using the restroom in which the woman claimed she had been held.  Florida deputies use a thermal imaging camera to locate a 5-year-old girl who was lost in a swamp. Monday evening near Tampa, a five year old girl with special needs wandered into a swamp near her house and was reported missing. Police quickly responded recognizing the seriousness of the situation. While using a thermal imaging camera they were able to capture images of the small girl wading through the water in the swamp.  The deputy in the helicopter was able to direct his counterparts on the ground. When she was approximately 80 ft from the child the deputy told them to call out her name. The deputy called out the child's name and held out his arms. The little girl responded by reaching out to the deputy who quickly scooped her up and walked her out of the swampy wooded area and back into the arms of her grateful family.  This was a wonderful piece of police work with a happy ending.  EFCC Arrests 36 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Abeokuta Operatives of the Ibadan Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested thirty-six (36) suspected internet fraudsters in Ogun State. They were arrested on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Gbokoniyin and Yetedo areas of Abeokuta in Ogun State, following actionable intelligence gathered and worked upon by the Commission. Items recovered from them include nine exotic vehicles, fourteen (14) laptops, forty-nine (49) mobile phones and other incriminating documents.  100 Patients Benefit From Ogun Free Surgical Intervention Programme In Two Days No fewer than 100 people have so far benefited from the ongoing Free Surgical Intervention Programme initiated by the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun. The programme kicked off on Monday with the registration of patients, while surgical operations started in earnest on Tuesday. The surgical procedures are taking place across the six State Hospitals and the 40 General Hospitals across the state. The breakdown showed that 36 surgical procedures have been carried out at State Hospital, Abeokuta, Ijebu Ode (22), Ilaro (6), and Ifo (4). At the General Hospitals, two procedures have been carried out at Odeda, Owode-Egba (4), Ikenne (5), Iperu (3) and Imeko (6).  Ethiopia PM to 'respect' other nations' sovereignty Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed says he will "respect" other countries' sovereignty. Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has pledged to respect other countries' sovereignty on the back of a dispute with the neighbouring Somalia over a port deal Ethiopia signed with Somaliland. Abiy made the commitment in Kenya's capital Nairobi on Wednesday during his two-day state visit to Kenya from February 27 to 29. After meeting host President William Ruto, the two leaders "affirmed their commitment to recognise, respect and uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states." A joint statement by Kenya's and Ethiopia's foreign ministries added that Ruto and Abiy "reject unconstitutional changes of government as well as interference in domestic political processes of African countries by external interests."

 Man Shoots And kills His Son For Eating The Last Food In the House in Abia A man in Abia State, south-east Nigeria, has allegedly k!llêd his son for eating up the last portion of food in their family’s kitchen. The suspect, Marcel Udeh, hails from Eziama Lokpa-Ukwu, a community in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state. The incident happened on Monday night in the community. Residents said the victim returned home and ate the last portion of food in a pot inside the family’s kitchen.

 RCCG Pastor Arraigned For Allegedly Rðping And Imprεgnðting His 17-Year-Old Daughter A Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Emmanuel Orekoya, was on Tuesday arraigned before the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for allegedly raping and impregnating his 17- year-old daughter. The defendant is facing two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and sexual assault preferred against him by the Lagos State Government. It was also gathered that the defendant in the process of having sexual intercourse with his daughter, allegedly impregnated her. The state’s prosecution counsel, Mrs Abimbola Abolade, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in 2017 at Jacob Adeleye Street, Odoeran, Itire area of the state.  Pope Francis hospitalized after general audience The Vatican has announced that Pope Francis was taken to hospital for an examination after holding his weekly general audience at the Vatican on Wednesday. The head of the Catholic Church returned to the Vatican shortly afterwards. According to the Vatican, the pope has been suffering from a “mild flu” for a few days, which led to the cancellation of several public appearances. Before visiting the hospital, during the audience, the pope said: “I still have a bit of a cold.” The pontiff plans to meet Germany’s Chancellor, Olaf Scholz in a private audience for the first time on Saturday. The pope’s health condition has been the subject of concern for some time now. Recently the pope also had issues with inflammation of the respiratory tract. Last year, he was hospitalized twice.
