UN SAYS 53 CONGOLESE REFUGEES HAVE DIED IN BURUNDI. (PHOTO).

 UN says 53 Congolese refugees have died in Burundi More than 50 refugees fleeing fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have died in neighbouring Burundi, the United Nations Refugee Agency told Reuters late on Friday. Of a total 53 deaths recorded, 25 people died due to a cholera outbreak, the agency said, while six others died from anemia and other complications related to malnutrition, it said. The U.N. said it was working with the health ministry and other partners to investigate the cause of the other deaths. More than 100,000 Congolese have sought refuge in Burundi since fighting near the border intensified in early December and rebels seized the town of Uvira, the UNHCR said. Jean Jacques Purusi, governor of South Kivu province where Uvira is located, described the situation in Burundi as "misery" and "a crisis completely forgotten by the international community and media." A DEPUTY CONTROLLER OF PRISONS IN KOGI STATE,JAILED YESTERDAY FOR FRAUD.

               Joseph Idachaba,a Deputy Controller of prisons was sentenced to seven years in prison by a High Court in Okene in Kogi state yesterday friday  for defrauding the Nigerian Prisons Service {NPS} of over N1.4million.He was arraigned alongside with Ruth Onoja,for fraudulently transferring N1.4 million from NPS bank accounts to that of a ghost staff named Mohammed Ugbede,in February.They were trailed on a three count charge of criminal conspiracy,falsehood and fraud levelled against them by the Economic and Financia Crimes Commission {EFCC}.The Judge said that the convict had initially admitted to the commission of the crime in his statement,but later turned around to deny it.The judge based his judgement on the prosecution because they proved beyond reasonable doubts  that the suspects intention was to defraud the Nigerian prisons of N1.4 million and ''To believe the story of the 1st accused in the face of the overwhelming evi...

THE NIGERIAN ARMY,TAKES OVER MUDI IN ADAMAWA STATE.

                      According sources,the Nigerian Army has completed its operation in Mudi Adamawa state in clearing terrorist who had formally renamed the town to Madina,carrying out attacks from there and its environs.Members of the terrorists group were dislodged after coordinated air and land operations in the area.More troops are being deployed to other areas in the north east axis in similar coordinated air and land operations to rid the communities of terrorists.A top military officer said ''In their attempt to escape the intensity of the military officers,desperate terrorists have resorted to attacking soft targets in neighbouring communities.The people must be courageous and brave enough in identifying the terrorists that mostly known to be locals to enable the military curtail the excesses of the insurgents.We are working assiduosly to also tackle the activities of moles,some very young,who spy for terrorists and invite...
