  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits.  Zaria Man Beaten To Death Was Not A Thief, Says Family Friend A family friend of a man identified as Dattijo, who was beaten to death in Jushi, Zaria, has debunked reports claiming he was a thief. An earlier report by SAHARA REPORTERS stated that the crisis began when a Hausa boy allegedly entered a woman’s house in a Yoruba community and was caught. He was reportedly beaten by members of the community and died after being taken to the Sarki’s palace. However, a friend of one of the deceased's brothers, who spoke with KADUNA POLITICAL AFFAIRS, claimed that Dattijo was not a thief. He added that Dattijo had merely been resting in the Yoruba community after working on the farm when an operative of the Kaduna Vigilante Service (KADVS) harassed him and falsely accused him of theft.  60 Bodies Recovered from Niger State Boat Mishap Rescuers have recovered about 60 bodies following a boat accident in Niger State. According to a release by the Press Secretary to the Council Chairman of Mokwa local government, Abubakar Dakani, the boat was carrying over 300 passengers when it capsised at the notorious Gbajibo River in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State yesterday evening. Dakani said the boat was travelling from Mundi to Gbajibo for the Annual Maulud celebration when tragedy struck. The release also confirmed that Council Chairman Abdullahi Muregi acknowledged the recovery of approximately 60 bodies, while 10 survivors have been found. It added that rescue efforts in collaboration with the State emergency management agency and locals are ongoing to recover others who are missing. In September 2023, a similar boat carrying over 50 passengers capsised killing 24 persons who were on their way to farm for harvest.

 Emirates Resumes Dubai-Lagos Flights After Two Years Emirates Airlines has resumed its Dubai-Lagos daily flights after a two-year hiatus.  The flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) resumed flight operations to Nigeria on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. The airline’s flight landed at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Tuesday afternoon as Nigerians celebrate 64 years of independence from British colonial rule. The over eight-hour flight touched down at the airport at 3:32 pm, according to air traffic controllers. Emirates Airlines suspended its Dubai-Lagos flights in November 2022 over its inability to repatriate trapped funds in Nigeria in the heat of the diplomatic fireworks between the two countries.  Bollywood actor Govinda was rushed to a hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday after accidentally shooting himself in the leg with his own revolver. The incident took place at his residence in Juhu early in the morning while he was preparing to leave for Kolkata. The actor was handling his licensed revolver when it slipped from his hand and misfired, causing the injury. Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, shared details of the accident, explaining that the actor was about to leave for the airport to catch a flight when the revolver accidentally fired. The shooting occurred in the 1600 block of 87th Street at about 4:50 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
