  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has suspended one of its state’s caretaker chairmen over a congratulatory letter to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami. The Gombe State interim chairman of the association, Sunday Congo, had congratulated the minister following his promotion to the rank of Professor of Cyber Security by the Governing Council of Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) at its meeting held in August. Attaining the rank in Nigeria is expected to come with years of teaching and research in the university. His new academic status has generated criticisms from different quarters questioning whether he earned the rank the way many did in the country.

Miyetti Allah Chairman Shot Dead By Bandits In Kaduna Gunmen have killed Abubakar Abdullahi, the chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The attack happened in the early hours of Friday, the the Director of Media and Publicity of MACBN in Kaduna State, Ibrahim Bayero-Zango, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, even as there was no official statement from the state or the Police. According to the MACBAN’s spokesman, the attackers stormed the home of the chairman, popularly known as Dambardi, in Lere town at about 1:00am. He added that the gunmen demanded N20m from him before he was whisked away to where the assailants later killed him along the Saminaka-Mariri-Zango highway. Although he was able to raise N250,000 for the assailants, they took him to the back of the town along the Saminaka-Mariri- Zango highway where they shot him dead.
