MORE THAN 100,000 CHILDREN HAVE BEEN DISPLACED BY THE LATEST ESCALATION IN EASTERN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO, UNICEF SAID ON SUNDAY, WARNING THE NUMBERS ARE EXPECTED TO RISE AS VIOLENCE SPREADS.(PHOTO).

 More than 100,000 children have been displaced by the latest escalation in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, UNICEF said on Sunday, warning the numbers are expected to rise as violence spreads. Since Dec. 1, intense fighting has uprooted more than 500,000 people, with children accounting for over 100,000 of those displaced in South Kivu alone, the UN agency said in a statement released Sunday. It said since Dec. 2, hundreds have been killed in the fighting, and children have been among the victims, with four students killed, six injured, and at least seven schools attacked or damaged. The rapid escalation has forced hundreds of thousands of children and families to flee within Congo and into neighboring Burundi and Rwanda, it added. Many people fleeing the violence have crossed into Burundi, with over 50,000 new arrivals reported between Dec. 6 and 11, nearly half of them children, UNICEF said, adding that the numbers are expected to rise as more displaced are identified. “Chi...

                               According to the World Health Organization {WHO} who said that processed meat such as bacon,ham and sausages can cause cancer.The processed meat refers to meat that has been modified to increase its shelf life or alter its taste such as by smoking,curing or adding salt or preservatives.WHO says that consumption  of 50 grams of processed meat a day,less than two slices of bacon,increases the chances of developing colorectal cancer by 18%.However,the organization also acknowledged that meat does have health benefits.Red meat is a major source of iron,zinc and vitamin B12.The processes such as salting,smoking,curing and preservation are the factors that inrease the risk of cancer.If you ask me,people especially those in Africa,should retrace their food steps.Meaning,before the coming of processed meat,we do cook before we fry,though we might lose the nutrients during these co...

                                                                                According to sources,the Police in Benin, has arraigned one 57 year oldOlusanmi Kolawole before an Egor Magistrate court,for allegedly defrauding five job seekers the sum of N1,160,000.He allegedly collected about N200,000 from each of the five victims,whose names were given as Bello Samson,Samuel Ekpudu,Innocent Oboh,Gbenga Olukoya,and Yemi Olukoya,while promising to secure appointments for them at the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.The accused who pleaded not guilty to all the charges,was granted bail by the Presiding Magistrate Igho Braimoh in the sum of N250,000 and a surety in like sum,who be gainfully employed.She thereafter adjourned the case to 10th of December 2015.The said offence wa...
