Fayemi Declines EFCC Invitation, Gives Reason The former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has declined an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, over an investigation involving money laundering. DAILY POST sighted an invitation letter dated 12th May 2023, sent to Fayemi by the EFCC. According to the letter, the Commission said it needed clarifications from Fayemi as part of the investigation. The statement further disclosed that Fayemi’s scheduled interview with the EFCC would be held on 18th May 2023. However, Fayemi who had acknowledged the receipt of the commission’s letter via his legal representatives claimed he would not be available for the interview on that particular day. The former Minister of Solid Minerals stated that he would be engaged in the presentation and launching of two new books in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari.

13-Year-Old Wins 2023 Rivers Spelling Bee Competition *** A 13-year old student, Excellent Edwin-Isotu has won the 2023 Junior Category to represent Rivers State at the Nigeria Spelling Bee Competition. Master Edwin-Isotu, a student of Graduate High School, Port Harcourt, will represent the state in the national competition, scheduled to hold from July 26 to July 29 in Rivers State. The National Coordinator of the programme, Abdulsalam Ibrahim, in a statement on Tuesday, said the goal of the Nigeria Spelling Bee Competition was to promote literacy among Nigerian students, and reward learning with amazing opportunities. Scores Kidnapped As Armed Robbers Block Garaku/Gudi Road  *** Armed robbers, Wednesday night attacked travellers on the Garaku/Gudi expressway in Nasarawa State.  The incident occurred around Mararaban Arusu  at the Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State where scores of travellers were abducted and whisked away to unknown destination.  According to an eyewitness, the gunmen also shot no less three passengers who were later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital.  The gunmen had shot on a heavy duty vehicle where it broke down and slowed traffic on the expressway before carrying out their operations amidst the heavy downpour.  Efforts to reach the DPO of Garaku Division proved abortive at press time. But a policeman said security operatives have been deployed to the area to bring the situation under control and ensure safety of travellers and other road users.

The death toll in Tuesday’s attack in Fungzai and Kubwat villages in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State has risen to 85 as search for missing persons continues in the affected communities.  National President, Mwaghavul Development Association, Joseph Gwankat, made this known while speaking to journalists on Wednesday May 17, after a security meeting at the palace of the traditional ruler in Mangu. He added that the search for missing persons is still ongoing in the affected communities. He lamented the k!llings and called on security operatives to come to their rescue. Court Issues Bench Warrant Against Amaechi, APC Guber Candidate, Others  May 17, 2023 A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has issued a bench warrant against former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi; Rivers State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress at the 2023 election, Patrick Tonye-Cole; and former Commissioner for Energy, Augustine Wokocha.
