  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements.        President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the invitation of King Salman Bin Abdulaziz, the ruler of Saudi Arabia & Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques,to perform the Umrah (lesser pilgrimage) in the Kingdom. To this effect, the President, accompanied by close personal aides, will embark on the journey on Thursday, 16th May. He is expected back in the country on Tuesday, 21st May. Umrah is an optional but recommended pilgrimage to Makkah that can be made at any time of the year.

AKALA TO REGULATE NIGHTCLUBS,LIQUOR CONSUMPTION IN KARU NASARAWA STATE.{PHOTO}.

      THE Chairman of Karu Local Government Council in Nasarawa State, Hon. Samuel Akala, says he will soon constitute a task force to regulate the activities of nightclubs and pubs as part of measures to tackle cultism and other crimes in the Area. Akala, disclosed this on Monday during the swearing in ceremony of the council’s secretary, supervisory councillors and special advisers held at the Secretariat, adding that the  bye-laws have been enacted to that effect. According to him, insecurity occasioned by cult activities, was one of the challenges confronting the local government area.      A member of the feeder team of the popular Ibadan-based Shooting Stars Sports Club, otherwise known as 3SC, Oginni Oluwaseyi Dayo, was on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibadan zonal office, over alleged involvement in internet related offences. Oginni was arrested alongside his brother-in-law, Alabi Okikiola, and his friend, Jonas Okwuwe, at a location withi n the Fortune Estate, Ologuneru Olonde area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. Their arrest followed a petition from a neighbour, who raised high suspicion on the reckless and flamboyant life the suspect lived, without any known reasonable source of income. Upon the receipt of the petition and further discreet investigation, operatives of the commission carried out an early morning operation that led to their arrest. INEC TO PROSECUTE ELECTORAL OFFENDERS+BAYELSA SEEKS POSTPONEMENT OF GOVERNORSHIP POLLS.{PHOTOS}.#PRESS RELEASE.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has hinted that the Commission will soon embark on the prosecution of electoral offenders apprehended during the 2019 general elections and whose case files have been prepared by the Nigeria Police. Prof. Yakubu dropped the hint today when he received a delegation from Bayelsa State at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. The team was led by the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha Jonah (rtd) who represented the Governor, Seriake Dickson. The delegation was at the Commission to plead for a change of the date fixed for the state’s governorship election. The Commission had on 9th April, announced that the Bayelsa and Kogi governorship elections will hold on 2nd November this year. The tenure of the governor of Kogi state will expire on 26th January 2020, while the Bayelsa state governor’s tenure will expire on 13 h February
