     Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Prince Gbolahan Lawal has stressed the need for butchers in the State to follow global best practices in the production and handling of meat for public consumption. Lawal, who gave the charge today in his office when he received in audience a delegation of the Lagos State Butchers Association, noted that the charge became imperative in view of the fact that Lagos has always be en known for quality and global best practices hence the need for butchers in the State follow suit. He disclosed that the Government would soon revisit the type of vehicles being used by butchers to transport meat across the State, adding that the current situation is unwholesome and therefore not acceptable.        The Governor of the State of Osun, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola, has commended the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) for consistently prioritizing the welfare of its personnel, which has gone a long way in boosting their morale and helping to improve their commitment to peace and stability in the State of Osun and Nigeria, as a whole. This commendation was made today, 28 August 2019, at the commissioning ceremony of newly completed projects at the NAF 209 Quick Response Group (209 QRG), Ipetu Ijesha in Osun State. The projects commissioned include a block of 12 one-bedroom Single Officers Quarters and the Main Gate of the Unit.       Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has signed the State Security Trust Fund Bill, passed by the State House of Assembly into Law. A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. kunle Somorin stated the Bill was signed by the Governor after it was presented to him by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo at the Governor's office, Oke-Mosan,Abeokuta. Similarly, the Governor has also signed into Law the Ogun State Road Mantaince Agency (Amendment) 2019, passed by the State Assembly.       46-year-old Pius Ezekwem, an Igbo businessman residing in the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa has been killed. According to reports, Pius who ran a chain of bed and breakfast guest houses, was picked up by eight police officers at a Nigerian eatery last weekend and was forcefully taken to his home for a search and interrogation. An argument between Pius and the South African police officers degenerated so fast that a gun shot was fired, leading to Pius' death. Pius was married to a South African who was present at the scene of the incident. He reportedly asked the policemen to kill him in his house as he would not follow them to where they wanted to take him to. Sadly, the policemen allegedly killed him in the presence of his family. All phones were seized except that of Pius' sister in-law who recorded his altercation with the police.      A Pastor of one of the new generation churches in Ifite Oraifite community of Ekwusigo local government area in Anambra State, reportedly stabbed his mother, Mrs. Grace Anaka to death in the early hours of Tuesday August 27. Though why the Pastor identified as Nwabueze Anaka killed his mother is yet to be ascertained, it was gathered that he fled the scene almost immediately. Anambra State police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident and he told newsmen that the fleeing Pastor stabbed his mother with a dagger in the family compound.      The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office, has arrested three legal practitioners for allegedly defrauding a Pastor, Adetunji Adedoyin of his property valued at about twenty million naira. The Accused are: Salman Rafiu, Sulyman Abaya and Saka Hammed. Others who are at large are, Olarewaju Aluko and Mr Na' Allah Suyuti.        President Muhammadu Buhari has attributed the partial closure of Nigeria’s border with Benin Republic to the massive smuggling activities, especially of rice, taking place on that corridor. The Nigerian leader gave the reason during an audience granted his Beninois counterpart, Patrice Talon, on the margins of the Seventh Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD7), in Yokohama, Japan on Wednesday. President Buhari, who expressed great concern over the smuggling of rice, said it threatened the self-sufficiency already attained due to his administration’s agricultural policies.
