  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. Kaduna Police Arrest Notorious Bandit, Recover Weapons, Charms   Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command, have arrested a notorious bandit while on patrol along the at Kwarkwaron Manu, Basawa council area of Zaria Local Government Area of the state. The police spokesman in the state, DSP Mohammad Jalige, who announced the arrest which took place on Friday, identified the notorious bandit as a 33-year-old Bilyaminu Saidu of Shuwaki village, Bakori LGA of Katsina State. Jalige in a statement released to journalists on Sunday, also listed items recovered from the hoodlum, who was on a motorbike as of the time of the arrest, to include, four AK-47 rifles, 344 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, 10 telephone handsets as well as charms. With utter shock and sadness, I received the news of the mindless shooting of a citizen by a police officer whose primary job function was to protect the same citizen.  I hereby sympathize with the family, friends and associates of late Bolanle Raheem.  I am therefore assuring everyone of the State Government’s full support and cooperation with the police authorities in their investigation to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the shooting, that led to Bolanle’s untimely death, with a view to ensuring that justice is served. U.S. supports NDLEA with forensic, intelligence, prosecution tools The United States government has announced a project that will strengthen the forensic and chemical analysis capacity of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, as well as its intelligence gathering and prosecution capabilities. The latest support from the U.S. Department of States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) comes on the heels of an award of N500 million grant to fund selected projects in the Agency by the Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative (ASR Africa). According to an official letter announcing the U.S. project grant to the NDLEA, the award followed requests by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) CON, OFR during a series of meetings with top U.S. officials both in Abuja and in Washington DC. Niger Delta states secure $200m World Bank loans to create jobs 26 December 2022  Four Niger Delta states have accessed $200 million loans and another $78.4 million grant from the European Union to create jobs. Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Ikanade Agba, said his ministry facilitated the loans. The funds were released to Bayelsa, Delta, Edo and Rivers states under the State Employment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) Project. Agba said: “The Project involved a concessionary interest-free loan of US$200 million from the World Bank with a grant element of about US$78.4 million from the European Union. It was aimed at enhancing opportunities for employment and access to socio-economic services, while improving public expenditure management systems in the participating States. “The State Employment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) Project (2014-2020) actually began before the inception of our administration but ended two years after I was appointed

LAGOS STATE POLICE COMMAND CONDOLES WITH FAMILY, FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES OF BARRISTER BOLANLE RAHEEM The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Abiodun Alabi, fdc has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Barrister Bolanle Raheem who was shot dead by a police officer in Ajah on Sunday, December 25, 2022.  On the instruction of the Commissioner of Police, the errant officer has since been taken into custody alongside his team members. The CP has equally directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba for in-depth investigation.  This has become one too many, especially bearing in mind that a similar incident occurred at the same location less than three weeks ago. Policeman shoots dead Lagos lawyer Bolanle Raheem on Christmas Day Trigger-happy Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) shoot dead a Lagos-based female lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, in the Ajah area of the state on Christmas Day. The unnamed policeman attached to the Ajah Police Station and his team were said to have tried to stop Raheem and her family members as they drove back home from a Christmas Day church service. Raheem, it was gathered, was shot when the car she was on tried to make a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge. The victim was rushed to a hospital but was confirmed dead.  More photos below.
