The President has also approved the appointment of Prince Ebitimi Amgbare as the Managing Director/CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority (NDRBDA). Dr. Barikor is an academic and politician. He was a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2015, while Prince Amgbare is a retired naval officer and former commissioner in Bayelsa State. The President expects that the new heads of these important agencies will discharge their duties with utmost fidelity to the nation and unfailing adherence to the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and excellent service to the people of Nigeria. AFCON 2023: Cote d'Ivoire government declares public holiday ahead of Nigeria clash The Ivorian Government has declared Thursday, January 18 as a public holiday for all schools in the country.  It also said that some government parastatals will work half a day in the country as they are expected to close work by 1 pm. The announcement comes ahead of their second group A game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria slated for 5:45 pm (Nigerian time) at the Alassane Outtara Stadium in Abijdan this evening.  According to the information,  the government wants citizens of the francophone country to be well-prepared and offer their full support to the Elephants of Ivory Coast, as they prepare for the match. Cote d’Ivoire started their AFCON campaign with a 2-0 victory over Guinea Bissau, while Nigeria were held to a 1-1 draw by Equatorial Guinea in their opening game.

COURT REMANDS 2 MEN FOR ALLEGEDLY STEALING SAND IN BENUE A Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday, ordered the remand of Ibrahim Mohammed and Adamu Mohammed at the Nigeria Correctional Service Centre, Makurdi for alleged conspiracy and stealing of sand worth N6 million. The men, who lived at Wadata in Makurdi, were charged with criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, mischief and theft. When the case was read, the duo pleaded guilty to the charges against them. However, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Kelvin Mbanongun, reserved judgment until February 6. Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Jonah Uletu, told the court that the defendants were arrested and brought to the station on January 13 in their white Hi-Jet mini truck, with registration number BKB 969 AA, by one Prof. Nina Waapela of Benue State University. Uletu said that Waapela stated at the police station that the defendants, with one other man now at large, had trespassed into her 300 by 100 feet land, situated at Yaikyo

Jigawa Pension Board Pays Over N1.823 Billion TO 702 Retirees Over N1, 823 Billion was disbursed as payment of terminal benefits to 702 who exited from active service on attainment of 35 years in service between the period of 2023 to January this year by the Jigawa State and Local Government Contributory Pension Scheme Board. The Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Kamilu Aliyu Musa, made this known while addressing the beneficiaries at the premises of the Board in Dutse.  He said the payment was categorized into four categories, indicating that the first batch of 577 retired staff consist of those who retired either by reaching the mandatory retirement age of 35 years in service or sixty years by birth were paid over 1.5 Billion naira. Countless Infractions, Unwholesome Practices Detected In NIN Enrolment – NIMC DG The Director General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, has said countless infractions and unwholesome practices were detected in National Identity Number (NIN) enrolment and modification processes. Coker-Odusote in a statement on Thursday added that most of the reports of infraction were done by some of the commission’s Front-End Partners. “On assumption of office, we observed countless infractions and unwholesome practices in the NIN enrolment and modification services. Ondo Amotekun arrests 19 kidnappers, 17 others No fewer than 36 suspects have been arrested by the Ondo State Security Network Agency also known as Amotekun, for involving in alleged criminal activities in some parts of the state. Parading the suspects in Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday, the state Commander of the corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said 19 of the suspects were specifically arrested over alleged kidnapping activities while others allegedly committed other offences such as stealing, burglary and murder. According to him, the 19 suspected kidnappers were picked from the northern senatorial district of the state and “you will notice that you always find members of the Amotekun Corps in each junction and every major street. Residents Flee 10 Zamfara Communities After Bandits’ Threats Residents of 10 communities in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State have fled their homes for fear of being attacked by a notorious bandits’ leader, Dan Nagala, who earlier sent attack threats to them. Daily Trust learnt that the affected villages are Gidan Soro, Maje, Fanda Hakki, Hayin Dankaro, Doka, Dan Gamji, Galmuwar Hannu, Dan Katsina, Dakwalge and Gidan Arne. The residents, our reporter gathered, fled their homes following a recent operation carried out by soldiers of the Operation Hadarin Daji unit. The operatives on Tuesday stormed the famous Danbasa-Buzaya forest and recovered a large number of cows allegedly stolen and kept by Dan Nagala.
