  Indian billionaire Gautam Adani charged in US for alleged bribery, fraud Gautam Adani, the chair of Indian conglomerate Adani Group and one of the world’s richest people, whose business empire extends from ports and airports to renewable energy,has been indicted in New York over an alleged multibillion-dollar fraud scheme, United States prosecutors have said. The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits. Prosecutors said the renewable energy company also raised more than $3bn in loans and bonds during this period based on false and misleading statements. NDLEA raids Lagos Island drug den, arrests kingpin, 6 others; recovers 5,862kg drugs A major drug kingpin operating the notorious Patey Lagos Island drug haven, in Lagos state, Mrs. Sherifat Kehinde Lawal has been arrested along with six other suspects by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, who also recovered 5,862 kilograms of assorted illicit drugs including Loud and Codeine in a raid on Saturday 26th February 2022. Following credible intelligence and follow up surveillance on illicit drug dealing in Osho, Gambari, and Beecroft Streets, Patey Area of Lagos Island, anti-narcotic officers stormed the Gambari street base of the drug kingpin where they arrested her and six of her accomplices at 9:30am Saturday 26th Feb. Other members of the cartel operating in the axis however mobilised hoodlums who attacked the operatives with stones, bottles and guns in a bid to prevent the officers from arresting other kingpins marked for arrest as well as taking the suspect

INEC adjusts timetable for 2023 general elections  The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says it has adjusted the timetable for the 2023 General Elections. The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who made the announcement during a presentation of the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2023 General Elections, on Saturday, said the Presidential election will now hold on February 25, 2023. He also.said the Governorship elections will hold on Saturday on March 11, 2023. “The Commission has decided to adjust the dates of the 2023 General Election to ensure compliance with the provisions of the new law. Accordingly, the Presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday 25th February 2023 while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold two weeks later on Saturday 11th March 2023. Armed Men Invade Burial Ceremony In Ebenebe, Anambra State, Kill Over 20. Armed men suspected to be cultists on Saturday, 26th February, 2022, invaded a burial ceremony in Ebenebe, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing about 20 persons. The burial was that of Ozo, a suspected leader of a cult, and while the corpse of Ozo was lying in state, some suspected cultists arrived the scene and sacked mourners, shooting at them. Anambra residents are now living in fear over the rising violence in the state. Many are hopeful that incoming Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo will prioritise security of life and property in the state.  More photos below.

  FG Lists 4 Poland Borders As Alternative For Stranded Nigerians In Ukraine  The Federal Government has listed the borders Nigerians fleeing the Ukraine-Russian war can use to access Poland. This is coming amid reports that students headed for the Polish border due to the shutting of Ukraine’s airspace were denied access. Withdraw Your Troops From Ukraine, Nigeria Urges Russia  The Federal Government has met with envoys of the G7 countries in Nigeria, expressing worries over the Russian-Ukraine conflict with a call for peace to resolve the conflict. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, met with the envoys on Friday in Abuja, saying that the Nigerian government called for peace and the use of diplomacy in resolving all differences. Onyeama said Nigeria does not condone the approach of aggression by Russia, calling on Russia to pull back. “Peace and diplomacy to be prioritised by both sides. “We support every effort being made to stop the aggression and Russian troops to return to Russia,” Onyeama said.

Only Four Teachers Teaching 227 Pupils In Community Primary School Umungara Obohia, Imo State – Amatalam Laments The headmistress of Community Primary School, Umungara, Amano-Obohia in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State urged those in authority to employ more teachers. Mrs. Amatalam Charity has decried out for the shortage of teachers in the school, describing the situation as disheartening and frustrating. According to her, the school currently has only five teachers who are teaching over 200 pupils. Mrs. Amatalam said this when Waka About Africa team visited the school, she said it affected them in preparing the pupils effectively, especially whenever they have both internal and external competition. The headmistress lamented that the situation had worsened learning in the school and deprived the pupils of quality education.
