 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Breaking: Lagos passes bill stopping parade of suspects The Lagos House of Assembly on Monday passed an amended version of the Criminal Justice Law of the state barring the police from henceforth parading suspects before the media. The bill was passed at a sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni Section 9(A) of the newly passed bill states: "As from the commencement of this law, the police shall refrain from parading any suspect before the media." The bill further stipulates conditions under which a policeman can arrest without warrant one of which is that a person must be reasonably suspected to unlawfully be in possession of firearms or other such dangerous instruments. A subsection of the bill also barred the police or any other agency from arresting a person "in lieu of any other person in a criminal matter." Makinde names Ogunwuyi Chief of Staff  Oyo State Governor, 'Seyi Makinde, has named Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi as his Chief of Staff. A letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun, confirmed Ogunwuyi's appointment. The appointment takes immediate effect. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna Zonal office has arraigned one Matthew Adamu before Justice M. T. M Aliyu of the Kaduna State High Court, Kaduna on a one count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence. The charge reads: “that you Mathew Adamu ‘M’ sometime in December 2018 within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N830,845.96 from the estate of late Inspector Jerry Yohanna Irimiya when you portrayed one Japheth Jerry as the rightful next of kin to the deceased Inspector Jerry Yohanna Irimiya which pretence you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under Section 1(3) of the same Act”.  The defendant pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charge when it was read to him. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt Zonal Office on Friday,  July 2,  2021 arrested 14 suspected internet fraudsters at Rumuodor Avenue, Ogbogoro, Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
