UNILAG admission: JAMB investigates claims by over 2,000 candidates 21st October 2023 The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has clarified that the process of admission requires candidates to upload their O’Level results on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) platform, among others, to determine their eligibility for tertiary education. The Board said it has also begun an investigation into claims in a report by an online medium that the University of Lagos (UNILAG) reportedly denied over 2,000 applicants admission over the failure of JAMB to upload their O’Level results on CAPS, stressing, however, that it is candidates and not JAMB that uploads results. Israeli Govt Shuts Down Al Jazeera Office Over Reports On Hamas War      The Israeli government has reportedly approved emergency regulations that grant the authority to close the office of Al Jazeera news channel in Israel. These regulations, Akelicious learnt, also allow for the confiscation of all equipment belonging to the news channel. Israeli public broadcaster, KAN, noted in a publication on Saturday that the Al Jazeera office is facing strict action due to concerns that its coverage poses a threat to Israel’s national security. The Israeli i24 news website has also quoted an Israeli statement claiming that Al Jazeera broadcasts propaganda in support of Hamas in both Arabic and English, reaching audiences worldwide.  Ousted President Mohamed Bazoum Tried To Escape - Niger Junta The military government in Niger says it has foiled an attempt by the deposed former President, Mohamed Bazoum, to escape from custody. The former president attempted to flee in the night with his family, cooks and security, a military spokesman said. There were plans for the group to fly out on helicopters but the plan was foiled, he added. Mr Bazoum's lawyers have called for his immediate release, saying his detention is illegal. He has been under house arrest along with his wife and son since members of his presidential guard staged a coup in late July. The lawyers say the ousted president and his family can only be visited by a doctor who brings them food every other day, and on Friday morning even this was not allowed. Sierra Leone Police Arrest Nigerian Man Declared Wanted For Allegedly Killing Girlfriend   The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has confirmed the arrest of one Benjamin Nnanyereugo for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Augusta Osedion, by the Sierra Leonean police force. Speaking with our correspondent on Saturday morning, Hundeyin said the Nigerian police have confirmed his arrest. "He was arrested by the Sierra Leone Police Force, and we are working on extradition of him to Nigeria," he said. Details of his arrest are still sketchy at the time of filling this report. Earlier, the Lagos State Police Command had declared Nnanyereugo wanted for the death of his girlfriend. The police, in a statement, said Nnanyereugo was suspected to have murdered the 21-year-old lady on July 13, 2023, in his home at Oral Estate in the Ajah area of the state. Police Launches Investigation into Borno Commissioner’s Death Borno State police command has commence immediate investigation into the death of the state commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement RRR, Ibrahim Garba. In a statement, spokesman of the Governor Malam Isa Gusau confirm that Commissioner of Police Yusuf Lawan personnally visited the house where the late Commissioner died in Borno. The statement adds that Governor Babagana Zulum received the news of his demise with intense shock and profound grief.  The Governor mourns alongside the late commissioner’s family, other loved ones, friends, associates, and members of the state executive council.  Late Ibrahim Garba was the Governor’s Special Adviser on Special Projects before he was appointed commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement in August this  year.
