     The Ogun State Governor will on Thursday inaugurate an Elders’ Advisory Council at the Obas Complex inside the State Secretariat in Abeokuta by 2pm. The Governor said the composition of the Council was part of the Government’s desire to tap from the fountain of wisdom of the elderly in our society and to give the state the benefit of the knowledge garnered over the years by these statesmen and women. “It is in order to walk the talk about our commitment to inclusive and participatory governance that we are doing this.       The Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Dr. Adewale Ahmed has called on Lagosians to be more proactive and safety conscious, especially during the present harmattan period in the State. Ahmed, who made the call during a media briefing at Ikeja, revealed that Lagos has recorded about 39 fire incidents in the first week of 2020, stressing that there is a need for all residents to be more careful as the dry harmattan period enhances the spread of fire easily. While reiterating government’s determination to secure the lives and property of Lagosians, the Commissioner enjoined residents to place gas cylinders outside the kitchen, stressing that cylinders should not be overloaded or expired in order to avoid explosion or fire incidents.       In fulfilment of his pledge to end poverty through the implementation of socio-economic empowerment programs, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday empowered a total of 1,050 vulnerable and indigent residents in the state. The Governor, who promised to uplift the living standards of the citizens at the inception of his administration kept part of the promise through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. The government achieved the feat by working with various associations across the State, who in turn reached out to the beneficiaries.        The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised that tourism and entertainment sectors in Lagos State would receive more attention from the State Government in the year 2020.       Governor Samuel Ortom earlier today, assisted by the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Mukadas, decorated his Aide-De-Camp, ADC, Julius Nyipila and the Commander Operation Zenda, Justine Gberindyer with new ranks. While the Governor's ADC was decorated with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, the Commander Operation Zenda was decorated with the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP. Dr. Kajetan Anuforo 'm', the Principal of Patterson Memorial Grammar School, Awada reported at Awada Police Station that there was a fire outbreak in the school on the 05/01/2020 at about 10:pm,at a section of the school dormitory when the students were out in the field for night prayers. 2. The fire which completely burnt down a dormitory block was eventually put off by the concerted efforts of the staff and students of the School. However, when the dust settled, it was discovered that a JSS 1 student identified as one Chigozie Dim Anyichie aged 11years, who did not go out with other students for prayers was caught up in the inferno and burnt beyond recognition. 3.       Enugu State Police Command has paraded three of its officers who were caught brutalising a civilian identified as Mr Justice Obasi in a viral social media video. It was learnt that the incident which took place on January 4 along Kenyatta Street, Uwani, Enugu attracted the attention of the Inspector General of Police who ordered the identification and prosecution of the erring officers. Commissioner of Police in Enugu, Mr Ahmed Abdurahman, while addressing journalists in his office on Monday revealed that the command had constituted a panel of inquiry whose report would be used as a base for the orderly room trial of the affected officers.          The Lagos State Government, through the Office of the Public Defender (OPD), has averted the death of a 14-day old baby who was severely jaundiced at birth but the parents refused to consent to the urgent blood transfusion recommended for her survival. Speaking on the incident over the weekend, the Director, Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, Mrs. Olayinka Adeyemi explained that the baby girl (name withheld) was delivered prematurely at a private hospital in Surulere on 18th of December, 2019 to a family residing at Abata Close, Orile-Iganmu. According to her, “The baby at birth was discovered to be severely jaundiced and therefore recommended for urgent blood transfusion to survive.
