Former Sierra Leonean President Koroma may be flown to Abuja for exile Thursday Former Sierra Leonean President Ernest Koroma may be flown to Abuja, Nigeria for exile on Thursday in a deal brokered by ECOWAS. Koroma was earlier today charged for treason for his alleged role to overthrow the government of President Julius Maada Bio on 26 November 2023. Diplomatic sources in neighbouring Liberia have revealed to that “air space approval has been granted for the aircraft to fly Koroma to Abuja.” However, the decision to allow him to be flown out rests with President Bio who is yet to give his nod.  Edo Cult Clash Claims Over 30 Lives January 2, 2024 A total of 30 people have so far died in a recurring cult war between Eiye and Black Axe confraternity groups in Edo state. The latest violence has claimed the life of a vigilante commander simply known as Osagie in Ekosodin community in the state. The incident occurred at a Keke Napep park along the Benin-Ore express road in Ovia Northeast local government area. Osagie’s untimely death prompted a surge in anxiety within the community. Kwara State COVID-19 Centre Gutted By Fire  The COVID-19 Centre, located around the Kwara state Government -owned Sobi Specialist Hospital, Alagbado, Ilorin has been gutted by fire.  Radio Nigeria gathered that the fire was caused by an unidentified person said to have set an undergrowth around the facility on fire.  It was also learnt that the fire later spread to the COVID-19 Centre ward.  The incident, which was confirmed by the state Fire Service, recorded no loss of lives nor injuries.  The Kwara state Fire service , Head of Department (HOD) Media and Publicity , Hassan Adekunle, said the swift response by the Service prevented major damage at the COVID-19 Centre.  In his remarks The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, advised residents of the state to prioritize safety.  He also urged the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities, adding that they should desist from sending under-aged children to fetch water in domestic well.

Centralia man shoots juvenile while trying to force her to perform a s*x act on another male.  Update- The depraved New Year's shooting in Salem, Illinois.  Diego Barradas, 21, was charged on New Year's morning for discharging a firearm as well as felony possession of a firearm. These charges came after Diego shot a 17-year-old juvenile female in the stomach. At the time, that was all Salem Police Chief Kyle Ambuehl could tell us about the incident. Timothy Hudspeth, the Marion County state's attorney, stated that there is proof indicating Mr. Barradas shot the 17-year-old female while attempting to force her to perform a s*x act on another male.  In addition, Diego tried blaming the shooting on the juvenile female although Hudspeth says there is nothing to support that claim. The ‘African Queen’ crooner while applauding the young artists for their achievements, vowed to return to the spotlight this year. 2Baba hinted at releasing new music later in the year. Bwala said Atiku was the president Nigeria should have because he understands how the private sector works. Featuring on Channels TV, Bwala said: “Sure, he would run. He has the capacity, he has the wisdom, he has the knowledge, he has the energy. “And he is a president we never had. Because to be honest with you, if any politician understands the private sector very well, it is Atiku Abubakar and our economy can only come alive if there is a private sector-led economy. “He’s the president the country is missing because of his experience and capacity.” Atiku had six failed attempts to rule Nigeria starting from 1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023. Though the terms of their release was not clearly stated The council chairman and his political godfather have been re-united with their families. Though the state police command had mobilise its personnel to trail the kidnappers and ensure the release of the council boss and his political ally.

  Thousands protest in Somalia against Ethiopia-Somaliland deal Senior government officials join protest in the capital, Mogadishu, to denounce the sea access deal. Thousands of people took to the streets in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, on Wednesday to protest against the sea access deal between Ethiopia and Somalia’s breakaway region of Somaliland. The protesters gathered at the Eng. Yariisow Soccer Stadium in Mogadishu after marching through different streets. Senior government officials including Interior Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, members of Somalia’s both houses of parliament and the mayor of Mogadishu Yusuf Hussein Jimaale attended the rally and condemned the sea access deal. The protesters were carrying placards reading “Somali belong to Somalia” and “our seas are not for sale.”

Aiyedatiwa suspends caretaker chairmen in Ondo   Ondo state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has suspended caretaker chairmen of the 18 local government areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA). The caretaker chairmen are to remain suspended until the case is determined by the court. An Akure High Court presided over by Justice Yemi Fasanmi had granted an interim injunction filed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which sought to restrain late governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu from inaugurating any person or persons not democratically elected as member(s) of caretaker committees to administer the affairs of the local councils and the LCDA pending the determination of the interlocutory Injunction in this suit. Justice Fasanmi later barred the caretaker chairmen from operating after they resumed office on the excuse that they had been sworn in before the order was granted. Ethiopia has signed an agreement with Somaliland to gain access to the sea port in Berbera. Somaliland will be given a stake in Ethiopian Airlines in exchange for that. Somalia has recalled its Ambassador to Ethiopia in protest. Somaliland is a breakway region from Somalia. One more photo below.

For the sake of my children, I will say no more - Yul Edochie Actor Yul Edochie has stated that for the sake of his children, he will stop with his calling out of his estranged first wife, May.  The actor began dragging May on social media since yesterday. However, in a post shared this morning, Yul said there is so much to be said but he would stop for now. He added that there are plans to kill him but God will not let that happen. Parents of Kano Abducted Children Appeal for Establishment of  Commission to Curtail Kidnapping  Parents of missing children in Kano state, have called on the  state government to set up a commission, that  would ensure speedy investigation and release of their children. The chairman of the group Comrade Isma'il Ibrahim Muhammad made the call in Kano. According to him , their children are still under the custody of a criminal  syndicate, who specialised in abducting and selling under aged children. Comrade Isma'il explained that , a syndicate specialised in kidnapping young children from Kano to the  Southern part of the country, rename, convert  and sell them to others. He stressed that, over six hundred children were abducted in the last few years, and only 18 have so far been reunited with their families. The chairman pointed out  that,  the affected families and their relations were undergoing extreme trauma courtesy of the abduction of their loved ones by the criminals.  T

Nigerian Railway Corporation to Commence Night Operations The Nigerian Railway Corporation has announced plans to commence night operations before the second quarter of 2024. The Managing Director of NRC, Fidet Okhiria, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday, January 1. He stated, “What is limiting us is the night operations, and that is not the way trains should operate. The train is meant to operate at all times. People may like to travel in the evening, but because of the security situation in the country, we limit ourselves to the daytime." “We intend to bring back passenger and freight trains from Port-Harcourt to Aba, Lagos to Kano, and Kaduna because of the dry ports,” Okhiria said. According to the NRC DG, this simply means that the corporation will begin six train trips daily on the standard gauge train across the board.   He said, “We are going to increase the number of train trips to six on Lagos-Ibadan, Warri-Itakpe, and Abuja-Kadu

French embassy in Niger closed over 'serious obstacles' French Embassy in Niger has closed indefinitely, citing "serious obstacles." France has closed down its embassy in Niger until further notice, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday, barely two weeks after the last French troops left the country in the wake of a coup that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum. The closure of the embassy in Niamey represents one of the final chapters in the winding down of a French presence in its former colony following the July coup that left the country in the hands of military leaders. "The French embassy in Niger is now closed until further notice," the foreign ministry said in a statement, adding the mission would continue activities from Paris. It said that for the five months since the coup "our embassy has suffered serious obstacles making it impossible to carry out its missions" including a blockade around the mission.

Israeli strike kills Hamas deputy in southern Beirut Hamas deputy head Saleh al-Arouri was killed on Tuesday evening by an Israeli strike in the Lebanese capital's southern suburbs.  Responding to the attack, the Palestinian militant group vowed his killing would not end their "resistance". Videos circulating on social media showed serious damage and fire.  The blast came after the Palestine Red Crescent Society said that "several" people were killed and wounded in an Israeli bombardment of its headquarters in Gaza's Khan Younis. Kenya postpones visa-free entry for foreigners Kenya has announced that the implementation of its visa-free policy, which was to start on January 1, will be delayed for some time. Kenya has announced the postponement of President William Ruto's directive to offer visa-free entries to the global community. Travellers planning to visit will continue to apply for visas through Kenyan embassies, maintaining the existing visa application process. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) said foreigners must adhere to current visa application procedures. "Following the presidential directive that Kenya will be a visa-free country from January 2024, an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system is in the process of development and implementation," KCAA said on Tuesday.

 24-year-old lady cries out after abroad returnee scammed she and her friend. A woman going by the name Tinuke has spoken out about her negative encounter with a man she met online who lived abroad. The 24-year-old lady said that they had been communicating since August 2023 and that he had deceived her and her friend when he arrived in Nigeria by pretending to be a nurse in Dublin, Ireland. When he came back to Nigeria in November, he asked her and her friend to stay at a hotel with him for a week. Since he did not have an ATM card, the man requested them to arrive with plenty of cash, which he would borrow and reimburse them later. Tinuke, who told her incident to Instagram influencer Omowunmi, claimed that she agreed to pay N57,000 while her companion accepted N70,000. The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has revealed that Zack Orji, the ailing film star, is getting better. The actor was hospitalised on Friday after collapsing in Abuja. Footage surfaced on Sunday, showing Orji bedridden and seemingly writhing in pain. Sources also said he had been grappling with fatigue for weeks, rendering him unable to talk or move. The thespian said she could have been involved in a “major” accident a few hours into 2024, but the situation was miraculously averted. She said she escaped death because 2023 wasn’t her time. She vowed that in 2024, she would “slow down and love life every day as if it were going to be my last.” On her Instagram page, the filmmaker wrote: “Few hours to 2024. I almost didn’t make it. What could have been a major accident averted. “Still don’t know how I escaped it. But I did. It wasn’t my time. So, it almost doesn’t count. “It’s 2024, and I am still here, thankful for Life. I will slow down and love life every day as if it were going to be my last. Cos one day, it will be. Just like 31st December, 2023. “Life is too short to be anything but happy. Grateful. “If it’s not time, it’s not your time! 2023 was not my time.”

Interior minister knocks NIS for asking married women to travel to Abuja for change of name Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has knocked officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) for always asking people, especially married women to come to the headquarters in Abuja just to effect a change of name on their passport. The minister who described the act as “Stupid practice”, spoke at a recent dinner with members of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu ABAT Media Centre and some social media influencers in Abuja.
