 Outcries Over State Recognised Vigilantes In North-West   The security outfits established by various state governments, especially in the North-West, are being accused of indiscriminate arrests and killing of suspects, as well as innocent people without recourse to judicial processes, findings by Daily Trust Saturday revealed. But those charged with the responsibility of managing the outfits have debunked the claims of extrajudicial killings, though some admitted what they described as “overzealousness” by some of the operatives. It was alleged that in some states, long lists of suspected bandits, their supporters or sympathisers have been arrested and ultimately killed, and such acts are allegedly being carried out without recourse to the police and other law enforcement agencies. THE CREEPY SIMILARITIES IN THE RECENT DEATHS OF TWO INDIANA WOMEN ONLY DAYS APART HAS LEFT MANY RESIDENTS CONCERNED. (PHOTO).

 The creepy similarities in the recent deaths of two Indiana women only days apart has left many residents concerned.  Two Indianapolis women were recently found deceased by a local strip mall only days apart and within three minutes of each other. The similarities don't end there either.  58-year-old, Shannon Lassere, was found outside of a local dentists office first on January 27th followed by 52-year-old, Mariannne Weis, less than a week later on Feb. 1st. Police reported they both had died in the same violent manner but did not state the cause of death. However, family of Lassere alleged she had been stabbed.  The police say there is no apparent link between the women but maintain they are, "taking proactive steps out of an abundance of caution."  These awful homicides of 2 very similar women in a very similar manner only days and minutes away from one another have residents on edge and fearing the same thing I think we all are fearing.  Our thoughts are with the fam

 Okocha asserts that the current Super Eagles do not have superstars and are yet to surpass the achievements of former players. In a conversation with Arise TV, Okocha criticized the current team's lack of superstars and suggested that they lack the same level of talent as the players he once played alongside. When questioned about the differences between the current team and his former teammates, Okocha remarked that the present players have recognized the importance of playing to their strengths. “Unfortunately, we don’t have too many superstars in the team.  COURT RENEWS ORDER RESTRAINING POLICE FROM ARRESTING EDISON. The Port Harcourt division of the Rivers State High Court has renewed and extended the interim court order restraining the Nigerian Police and other security agencies from arresting the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor, Edison Ehie. The order was renewed by the trial Judge, Justice Sika Aprioku following a complaint by Mr Ehie’s lawyer, Damian Okoro SAN who informed the judge that despite the court’s earlier order, the police had gone ahead to declare Edison wanted. After listening to the Senior Advocate, Justice Aprioku cited order 4 rule 4C of the Administration of Criminal Justice which gives him power to renew and or extend orders where applications are made ex parte. He extended the validity of the previous order till the substantive suit is determined, he also ruled on an application for extension of time by respondent counsel Celestine Dickson, who he gave three days extension

 Nigeria Immigration Service issues over 2m passports in 2023 amid ‘Japa’ trend The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, disclosed in a virtual lecture hosted by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) issued more than two million passports in 2023. Titled ‘New Passport Policy/Processes for Nigerians in the Diaspora Confirmation,’ the lecture discussed the notable surge in passport applications, primarily attributed to the widespread ‘Japa’ movement of mass relocation to developed nations. Adepoju drew attention to the recent spike in passport issuances, pointing out that 1.3 million passports were issued in 2021 and 1.5 million in 2022—a 50% increase—were issued. The figures increased by more than 100% in 2023, to a total of 2,141,300 passports issued. ‘Our Husbands Don’t Touch Us At Night Because Of Heat’, Rivers Women Protest There was a mild drama in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, on Tuesday, as some women marched to the office of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) over what they described as their inability to have conjugal relationship with their husbands due to heat. Armed with placards with inscriptions such as ‘No Light, No Payment’, ‘The Heat is too much’, etc, they lamented the untold hardship they were passing through. The protesting women said their husbands no longer touch them at night due to heat, lamenting their inability to preserve cooked foods for weeks as a result of power outage.  Osimhen cleared for South Africa clash Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, has reportedly been cleared by the team’s medical staff for Wednesday’s semi-final clash against South Africa. The Super Eagles travelled on Monday evening from Abidjan to Bouaké without star striker Victor Osimhen as a result of abdominal discomfort. The team’s media officer, Babafemi Raji, who confirmed the incident, said the team doctors had placed him under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. Eto’o, 42, offered his resignation during a meeting of Fecafoot’s executive in Yaounde on Monday night, in which the former striker requested for other members of the board to also offer their resignations ‘in good faith’.  Yobe Gov declares Feb 7 work free day in honour of late Gov Bukar Gov Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has declared Wednesday, Feb 7, a work free day to mark a three-day prayers for late former Governor of the state, Sen Bukar Abba Ibrahim. Alhaji Mamman Mohammed,the Director General, Press and Media Affairs to the governor said this while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Damaturu. He said the day was set aside to offer prayers for the former governor who died in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. The three days prayers, according to him, would be offered at the Government House Mosque, Damaturu.  EFCC Arraigns Car Dealer,  One Other for N13.5m Property Fraud The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, February 5, 2024, arraigned a 56-year-old car dealer, Rasaq Abolaji Mumini and one other for selling a forfeited property without due authorization and obtaining money under false pretence. Specifically, Mumini and one Mrs Lawal Olawande Mariam were arraigned on two- count charges before Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ogbomosho, Oyo State. The defendants allegedly sold a property, which is under attachment by the EFCC without lawful authorization.  Inferno Kills 4 Year Old Boy In Kano The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed the death of a four year-old boy, Abubakar Sani at Yakasai Layin Inuwa mai mai, Kano Municipal local government area (KMC). The Public Relations Officer of the service, Alhaji Saminu Abdullahi made the disclosure in Kano. Saminu explained that, the agency  received a distress call from their staff Habibi Adamu about a fire outbreak at Yakasai.  He pointed out that,a rescue team was  immediately mobilized from from  Central and Audu Bako Secretariat fire station. The public relations officer pointed out that, the building  of one floor of about 40 by 30 ft used as dwelling house, one room from the upper floor was completely razed  by the inferno, while one living room was slightly burnt.  Court voids N21.5bn money laundering charge against ex-Chief of Air Staff Amosu, others Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday nullified a criminal charge preferred against a former Chief of Air Staff, Adesola Amosu, and two others over alleged N21.5 billion money laundering. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had re-arraigned the defendants on an amended 13-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N21.5 billion. Justice Aneke on Tuesday upheld a preliminary objection by the defence counsel challenging the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the case on the grounds that the defendants were serving officers of the military at the time. It had argued that the defendants were, therefore, only subject to trial by a court martial, since they were still officers during the period.

 Tobi Amusan set new 60m hurdles indoor record Nigerian Athlete, Tobi Amusan has set a new African women’s indoor record in 60 metres after finishing at 7.75 seconds at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston. Amusan retired the 7.77 record she had previously established in Kazakhstan at the Astana Indoor Meet in January with her 7.75 seconds run in Boston. However, despite setting the new record, she came second in Boston, with America’s Tia Jones finishing first in 7.72 seconds and Bahama’s Devynne Chalton finishing third with a time of 7.76 seconds.  FG finally bans alcoholic beverages in small sachets The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has banned alcoholic beverages produced in sachets less than 200ml. The agency said the five-year window given to the manufacturers of the products to stop producing the drinks in sachets and pet bottles which began in 2028 elapsed on January 31, 2024. She said enforcement of the ban commenced on February 1, 2024.  Explosion razes 3-storey building, injures child, grandparents in Lagos A four-year-old girl identified as Faridat Shittu and her grandparents are currently lying critically ill at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) following the injuries sustained when a cooking gas exploded and ravaged a three-storey building along Odubanwo Street, off Olaniyi Street, Gbinrinmi in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area of Lagos. Her uncle also suffered varying degrees of burns in the incident that occurred on Sunday. It was learnt that the grandmother was frying meat when the oil caught fire.  9 Stowaways Extracted From Spain-Bound Vessel In Lagos The patrol team of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, have extracted nine stowaways in the rudder compartment of Spain-bound Motor Tanker vessel LYSIAS VALETTA. The Commander of the Ship, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, on Monday, said that the stowaways were discovered on Feb.3 aboard the vessel trying to leave the country irregularly.
