 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. Court Convicts 5 Yahoo Boys for Cybercrime in Kaduna The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of 5 Yahoo Boys before Justice A.A Ishaka of the Kaduna State High Court on separate one count charge bordering on impersonation and internet fraud, contrary to Section 142(1) of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017, Section 308 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law 2017. Riman of the Federal High Court, Akwa, Anambra State. They were convicted on June 13, 2023, on a one count separate charge bordering Impersonation. The convicts are Emos Ozoemena Orjiobasi, Onodugo Oji, Chukwudi Usulor, Victor Ifesinachi Ozonwanji, Arinze Daniel Ani, Ogbodo Chinedu Johnbosco, Okonkwo Francis Chukwuebuka, Emmanuel Tochukwu Ezuma, Tochukwu Collins Ojiochie, David Charles Ani, Chibuzo Emmanuel Okoloeze and Ebuka Thaddeus. Forex scarcity bites harder on airlines as operators mull flight suspension 15th Jun 2023  The biting scarcity of dollars may force some airlines to shut down operation any time from now. Though the scarcity has always crippled airline operations, it got worse recently with many airlines finding it extremely difficult to continue operations as they are unable to source for dollars to pay for aircraft maintenance. No fewer than 10 aircraft belonging to local operators are in different maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities abroad as they are unable to source for dollars to pay for the cost of maintenance. Media reports said that an average C-check costs $1m (about N750m at N750/$) and it could be more depending on the extent of the check to be carried out on an aircraft. Pirates attack, hijack two passenger boats in Rivers 15th Jun 2023  Passengers and seafarers along the Port Harcourt-Abonnema-Kula route in Rivers State have been thrown into panic following recent hijack of two boats on the route by pirates. It was reported that one of the passengers inside the two boats, a woman, was thrown into the River by the pirates, but she was later rescued. As was learnt, the passengers were travelling from Abonema to Kula, both in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of the state, when the pirates attacked their boats in the middle of the sea. Officials of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) in the area confirmed the hijack of the two boats to newsmen The officials said the boats were each carrying 12 passengers, most of who jumped into the River in a bid to escape abduction following the attack by the pirates. Also, MWUN chairman in Rivers State, Israel Pepple, expressed worry that attacks along the waterways have resurfaced after a noticeable calm.

NSCDC Director Public Relations, Mr Olusola Odumosu confirmed the removal of Ogar on Thursday in Abuja. The removal of the commandant followed the blockade of the NSCDC Command office in Rivers by members of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG) on Wednesday. The blockade followed the impoundment of three oil trucks belonging to members of the union by NSCDC personnel. Odumosu said that the NSCDC CG had ordered Ogar to hand over to his deputy pending the deployment of a substantive State Commandant.  Okada rider rapes eight-month pregnant woman in Benue The Benue State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping an eight-month-old pregnant woman. The man identified as Akpo Igwe, a motorcyclist popularly known as okada rider, was said to have raped the 25-year-old woman (names withheld) last Thursday at Irabi Council Ward of Obi Local Government Area of the state. A family source, who did not want to be mentioned, said the woman who was returning from the market had flagged down the motorcyclist to take her home only for the okada rider to divert to a bush part and raped the woman.
