Banditry: Zamfara govt shuts down eight cattle markets The Zamfara State Government has announced the immediate closure of eight cattle markets in five local government areas of the state. This is contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mannir Haidara, on Sunday in Gusau. He said the State Security Council approved the temporary closure of the cattle markets during its meeting held on Thursday, August 31. According to him, the action is part of measures to tackle the renewed attacks and cattle rustling in parts of the state. “The measure was taken following the resurge in activities of selling and transporting of rustled cattle by the suspected members of armed bandits in the affected areas. “The affected cattle markets are; Danjibga and Kunchin-Kalgo in Tsafe, Bagega and Wuya cattle markets in Anka. “Others are Dangulbi and Dansadau in Maru, Dauran in Zurmi and Nasarawar Burkullu in Bukkuyim LGAs, respectively,” the Commissioner said. Rivers govt shuts AIT, Raypower’s operations The Rivers State Government has shut down the operations of Africa Independent Television and Raypower FM in Port Harcourt. According to a report on the media organisation’s website, the operations were shut down by telecommunications engineers contracted by the State Government who were accompanied by armed security operatives. It is also observed a live broadcast on the TV channel where the alleged contractors were seen disconnecting the wave guard from the antenna on the mast while riggers were seen dismantling the mast. Police Recover First Gas Gun In Nigeria In Lagos The Nigeria Police Force is worried over the discovry of gas pistol( Spyder Victor) recovered from a robbery gang in Lagos. The gun, the first of its kind in Nigeria, was recovered from a suspected robber on Eko Bridge. The police said they were still studying the gun to know how it came into the country, and why the gang decided to go for the make. Builder, His Two Sons Perish As Building Under Construction Collapses In Nnewi A builder identified as Chizoba Aniefuna and his two sons have lost their lives following the collapse of a storey building with pent house at Egbu Umuenem, Otolo Nnewi, Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State. Subsidy Removal: Gombe Govt Approves N10,000 Increment in Workers’ Salary The Gombe State Government has announced an increment in workers’ salary by N10,000 across board to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal. Briefing newsmen in Gombe, the Deputy Governorr, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau said it was part of the measures taken by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to reduce the economic impact of the subsidy removal on workers. Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) expels students for protesting against insecurity The Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, has expelled four students and reportedly restricted others from accessing its registration portal for protesting against insecurity two months ago. PREMIUM TIMES gathered that 34 students were invited to face a disciplinary committee before they left for semester holiday for partaking in the protest. Three of the students who were questioned said they had been handed letters of expulsion while others are waiting to receive their expulsion letters from the school’s management. Most of the indicted students are in 300 or 400 levels. During the protest, some of the students said they were tired of being abducted by terrorists.
