This is contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mannir Haidara, on Sunday in Gusau. He said the State Security Council approved the temporary closure of the cattle markets during its meeting held on Thursday, August 31. Rivers govt shuts AIT, Raypower’s operations The Rivers State Government has shut down the operations of Africa Independent Television and Raypower FM in Port Harcourt. According to a report on the media organisation’s website, the operations were shut down by telecommunications engineers contracted by the State Government who were accompanied by armed security operatives. Police Recover First Gas Gun In Nigeria In Lagos The Nigeria Police Force is worried over the discovry of gas pistol( Spyder Victor) recovered from a robbery gang in Lagos. The gun, the first of its kind in Nigeria, was recovered from a suspected robber on Eko Bridge. The police said they were still studying the gun to know how it came into the country, and why the gang decided to go for the make. Unfortunately, the prime suspect, who his gang members claimed that only him could say the source of the gun and why he decided to go for the kind, escaped arrest by jumping into the Lagos Lagoon. The police are currently searching for the suspect whether dead or alive. Subsidy Removal: Gombe Govt Approves N10,000 Increment in Workers’ Salary The Gombe State Government has announced an increment in workers’ salary by N10,000 across board to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal. Briefing newsmen in Gombe, the Deputy Governorr, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau said it was part of the measures taken by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to reduce the economic impact of the subsidy removal on workers. He said that Gov. Inuwa Yahaya is concerned about the welfare of civil servants and residents of the state through various interventions since the COVID-19 pandemic. He said since the fuel subsidy removal, the state government had taken measures towards cushioning its effects on citizens of the state by distributing palliatives to 30,000 beneficiaries with the target of reaching out to 420 000 across the state. Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) expels students for protesting against insecurity The Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, has expelled four students and reportedly restricted others from accessing its registration portal for protesting against insecurity two months ago. PREMIUM TIMES gathered that 34 students were invited to face a disciplinary committee before they left for semester holiday for partaking in the protest. Three of the students who were questioned said they had been handed letters of expulsion while others are waiting to receive their expulsion letters from the school’s management.
