EFCC TASKFORCE ARRESTS 34 SUSPECTED CURRENCY SPECULATORS IN ABUJA. (PHOTOS). #PRESS RELEASE.

 EFCC Taskforce Arrests 34 Suspected Currency Speculators in Abuja Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, attached to the Taskforce on Currency mutilation, Dollarization of the Economy and Forex Malpractice, have arrested 34 suspected currency speculators  for alleged foreign exchange fraud. They were arrested on Friday, April 26, 2024 in a sting operation following credible intelligence about illegal sales of dollars at the Wuse Zone 4 area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.   The suspects are :Usman Mohammed, Abdullahi Nasir, Abubakar Saleh, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, Abubakar Ghadafi, Muktar Usman, Umar Abubakar Abba, Yakubu Sani, Aminu Abubakar, Muhammed Suleman Abara, Yusuf Tahir, Usman Lawal, Usman Lawal, Usman Umar, Amina Garba Rola, Muhammed Aliyu, Murtala Haruna, Sani Mohammed, Umar Farouk, Muhammed Sagiuru, Aminu Salisu, Lawal Bello, Munzali Hashim, Jamilu Suleiman, Mustapha Umar, Mubarak Tanimu, Adamu Garba, Mohammed Usman, Bello Musa, Saleh Moha

THE PETROLEUM INDUSTRY BILL,WAS PASSED TODAY BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

                    Today thursday,the House of Representatives passed the lingering Petroleum Industry Bill {PIB}.The House after considering an Ad hoc committee report on 312 sections and 438 clauses,unanimously passed the bill into law.Chairman of the Ad hoc committee on OIB,Rep.Ishiaku Bawa {PDP Taraba} submitted the report of the committee's assignment to the House in March 2015.The committee had scrutinised the sections and annexure of the original bill and made some amendments and recommendations.The public hearings also conducted by the 23 member Ad hoc committee in all the geo political zones provided opportunities for stakeholders to make their contributions to the bill.The bill which covered salient areas in the petroleum industry,is to ensure the establishment of the Petroleum Equalisation Fund and Incorporation of National Gas Company.Others are the establishment of the Petroleum Directorate and National Asset Management Company,as well as the imposition of new tax reg

DANGOTE GROUP TODAY,OPENED A $500 MILLION CEMENT PLANT IN ETHIOPIA.

                         According to sources,Dangote Group today thursday,opened a $500 million cement plant in Ethiopia.The new plant is in the western Ethiopian district of Mugher at a site some 85 kilometres from the capital Adidis Ababa,which is surrounded by green pastures but is quickly becoming one of the country's main industrial hubs.The plant will initially produce 2.5 million tonnes a year in a country whose population of 90 million only consumes around 70 kilogrammes of cement per capital annually and the company said it plans to further expand its out put.Nigeria's annual per capital consumption is 127 kilogrammes.Aliko Dangote said in a speech that ''We are going to double this plant.A reliable power supply was one of the attractions that lured the investments to Ethiopia''.

5 MEN,CHARGED TODAY FOR THE 148 GARISSA UNIVERSITY DEAD STUDENTS IN KENYA.

                                           Five men were charged today in connection with an attack by Somalia Islamic gunmen on Garissa university in northeast Kenya that killed 148 students.The assault on Garissa University on April 2,in which gunmen from Somalia's al Shabaab group stormed in and sought to kill christian students,has piled pressure on President Uhuru Kenyata to do more to secure the border and other regions.A source said that the effects of the assault are still being felt  county,where almost two third of schools have had to shut down because students,many from other regions,are not willing to go to work there anymore.Four men from Kenya and one from Tanzania were charged in court for conspiring to commit ''A Terrorist act at Garissa university college'' and other related offences.They are the fist people to face formal charges over the attack.The Chief magistrate Daniel Ogembo told the Nairobi court that a hearing would be held on July 11 to rul

ANGRY DAAR COMMUNICATION WORKERS IN BENIN,SHUTDOWN AIT & RAYPOWER OVER UNPAID SALARIES.

                       The workers were said to have blocked the main entrance to the station located along the Benin/Lagos bypass.A detachment of anti-riot policemen were however called by the management of the station to forestall any breakdown of the law.It was gathered that the protesting workers put at 50 of AIT and Raypower,were owed salaries spanning between 12 and 17 months.One of the protesting workers who did not want his name in print for personal reasons,said newly employed staff of AIT were being owed 12 months while old staff were yet to be paid salaries between 13 months and staff of the Raypower FM,the Radio arm of the broadcast outfit were owed 17 months.Chairman of the organization,Raymond Dokpesi {Jnr} was said to have spoken to the protesters on phone.He allegedly appealed for calm,assuring them that the management will within one week do everything possible to pay parts of the salary arrears.He however allegedly threatened to pay off any of the staff that decided t

A MAN KANAYO AWURUM,WAS RECENTLY ARRESTED FOR SELLING HIS 2 YEAR OLD SON FOR N300,000.

                                                              The picture above belongs to Kanayo Awurum.According to sources,the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of Lagos state police command has arrested a man for allegedly selling his 2 year old on for N300,000.Investigation revealed that Kanayo Awurum,a painter from Imo State,allegedly impregnated his girlfriend,Ugochukwu Kelechi and he absconded shortly after that.It was after Kelechi gave birth to the boy that he was sold when he was two years old without her knowledge.Two years after,Awurum cam back and apologised to her and told her people that he will like to marry her and he should go and bring his people.Thereafter,he relocated to Lagos to meet Kelechi at Ikotun.It was gathered that he had no money after he relocated to Lagos,as a result of that,he told Kelechi about his intention to use his son for a loan with a promise that after three months,he would offset the loan and claim the boy back.His wife was said to have objected to t

MORE THAN 90 PEOPLE DIED IN A FIRE,AT A PETROL STATION IN GHANA,YESTERDAY.

                   The fire broke out at the Goil filling station at the Nkrumal circle in Accra during heavy rain pour,yesterday wednesday.The National Fire service in Ghana confirmed that officially 90 people are dead but there are fears that the number could rise as the rescue operation continues.Sources say most of those who were caught up in the fire were sheltering at the petrol station from the heavy down pour in Accra.It is not clear what caused the fire which followed heavy down pour in Accra that led to power outages in several homes and hundreds of workers in the capital,were left stranded at their work places as the heavy down pour submerged the city.More photos below.
