The authorities on Wednesday charged Adani and two other executives at Adani Green Energy, his nephew Sagar Adani and Vneet Jaain, with agreeing between 2020 and 2024 to pay more than $250m in bribes to Indian government officials to obtain solar energy supply contracts expected to yield $2bn in profits.  Anambra Assembly passes State Electoral Law Amendment 2 Bill 2024, Local Government Amendment 9 Bill 2024 into Law By Anastasia Agunwa/Chizoba Okeke/Gloria Abugu  A Bill for a Law to amend the Anambra State Electoral Law, 2024 and for other connected purposes has been passed into law on the floor of the Anambra State House of Assembly. This followed the necessary amendments of clause 2 and various Sections 24(3), 25(1), subsection 27(3), 31 and 56(a,b,c, d) of the Principal Law considered at the "Committee of the Whole" by the lawmakers, after which the bill read for the third time before it was passed into law during plenary on August 13. The Speaker of the House, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze who presided over the plenary said that the law shall be cited as " Anambra State Electoral Law Amendment No.2 Law, 2024 and shall come into force on the 13th day of August, 2024.  Mohbad’s family rejects Yomi Fabiyi’s call for protest The family of the late singer Mohbad has kicked against the recent call by actor Yomi Fabiyi for a protest at the next court hearing.  Mohbad passed away under mysterious circumstances on September 12, 2023. His body was later exhumed for an autopsy at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH. The toxicology report, however, revealed no significant findings that could be attributed to his death. Rejecting the report, Mohbad’s family demanded an independent autopsy. Fabiyi in preparation for Mohbad’s one year anniversary, urged the public to peacefully protest at the upcoming court hearing.  Lagos woman Oluchi Okoye in trouble for biting 15-year-old housekeeper A 51- year-old Lagos woman, Oluchi Okoye, who allegedly inflicted bodily injuries on her 15-year-old housekeeper, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court. The defendant who resides at Olukosi Street in Shasha area of Lagos, is facing trial on a two-count charge of assault and threat to life. The prosecutor, Insp. John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 15, at 8:00 a.m., in her residence. Iberedem said that the defendant bit the housekeeper on her shoulder and inflicted injuries on her body. He said that the defendant also threatened to stab the girl with a kitchen knife during the altercation. The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Section 10(a) of the Child’s Right Law of Lagos State, 2015 and Section 56(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.  5 people charged in death of Matthew Perry including his assistant and 2 doctors. Arrests have been made close to one year after the untimely death of Matthew Perry. According to the U.S Attorney, Martin Estrada, all the defendants knew what they were doing and used Perry's addictions to benefit themselves.  Among those charged were Matthew Perry's live-in personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, and two medical doctors, Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez. Matthew Perry had been undergoing ketamine therapy to treat his severe anxiety and depression.  As a result he became addicted to the drug and when doctors cut off his supply he sought out the drug from illegal sources. Allegedly, the doctors that are charged were selling the drug illegally to Perry's assistant.  Police have released that Matthew received several injections of ketamine administered by his assistant on the day of his death.  Monticello, Illinois police officer arrested on Child P--nography charges.  39-year-old William Griswold,  an officer with Monticello P.D., was arrested on August 13th on charges of CP. These serious charges come after an Illinois State Police Zone 5 criminal investigation regarding multiple tips received through the National Center for Missing and Endangered Children. After taking Griswold into custody the Illinois State Police executed a search warrant on his home. He was charged with Dissemination of CP and was transported to the Piatt County Jail.

 Security needs 350m rounds of ammunition yearly, says minister The Nigerian Armed Forces, para-military and the police need 350  million rounds of ammunition yearly for effective operations, Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle said yesterday. The minister spoke on the imperative of self-sufficiency in defence production during the signing of a Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) on the establishment of weapon production plant in Abuja. The MoU was between the Ministry of Defence and two agencies  – the Defence Industries Corporations of Nigeria (DICON) and the National Agency for Science and Engineering (NASENI). The ceremony was attended by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, service chiefs and heads of security agencies.  Junior federal workers’ new minimum wage details ready The  computation of the new minimum wage for junior federal  workers  have been completed by the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC). That of workers  in the senior cadre will be ready in the next two or three weeks.
